Welcome to the Leverguns.Com General Discussions Forum. This is a high-class place so act respectable. We discuss most anything here other than politics... politely.
Please post political post in the new Politics forum.
I just got done deleting 19 spam posts. It seems we are being targeted by someone.
I wish there was a way to block them from re posting. What do you think guys???
I bet I spend 15-20 minutes a day sweeping out the trash. It sure takes a lot of the fun out of our forum for me.
I use Internet Explorer (which I don't like) on a Windows 8 (which I despise) machine, with McAfee (which I grudgingly accept), but haven't had ANY 'popups' when on Leverguns. I don't get any 'spam' related to the forum (I do on my email), but I'm not a Green-Letter-Guy, so maybe they are getting stuff and clearing it out so the rest of us don't have to bother with it.

Guy`s , the trash I talk about is not pop up`s. Those are controlled by your own firewall or pop up blocker.
The ones I and others have been cleaning out are regular posts that are for sex and Viagra and other sales oriented crud, and links to other trash. These come on the forum looking like a regular post but have an icon showing that they have not been approved.
I wish they would just go away.
If you're using internet explorer go into "tools" and click on "Manage add-ons", then scroll down thru the list and disable any that appear to be "ad related"... I had one on there called "better-surf", and a couple of others...

There is a fine line between hobby & obsession! AND... I'm over it!!
No I ain't ready, but let's do it anyway!
I have never, ever gotten a popup on any of the Leverguns forums, except for the "new message" notifications. How can you be getting any popups? Am I supposed to be seeing some ads?

Think of it as shoveling out the horse stall, although with out the opportunity for fertilizing the tomatoes next spring. (grin)
Considered banning the entire IP range from China? Know one guy, said that helped a lot.
Or you could for membership create a quick four or five question pop quiz with some easy but obvious lever questions. Unless the application answers (few spammers will), that's an easy way of weeding them out.
ex.
What is a year used as a model number for a very popular lever action rifle?
A. 1855
B. 1894
C. 1937
What is a very popular caliber in lever action rifles?
A. .41-98
B. .223-06
C. .30-30
Possible solution: Use the little squiggly line numbers that you have to type in before you post to block the "bots". (I do hate those stupid things)
I've been a member so long I can't remember if the forum already does this, but require all posters to join the forum and be screened before being allowed to post. Or are they finding a way around this?
Ya'll must be doing a good job of deleting the spam because I haven't noticed any in a long time.
If the forum has to spend money for software to stop this problem, sign me up for a donation to help out.
Being a forum moderator is a thankless job, I know. So THANKS!

Captchas (those squiggly lines) have been broken. Either by software or by having some third-world kid in an internet cafe solve them for fraction of a cent each.
Some kid in Romania or Nigeria won't bother with or couldn't handle a lever specific quiz.
I haven't received any spam or any popups from here. Thanks for all the work that all of you moderaters and helpers do. I will chip in for a donation if something is needed for a software upgrade. This is a good place to be and we all seem to want to keep it that way.
