Just picked up a new BLR TD in 308 with the straight grip. Nice little rifle. It'll go well with my BPS Upland Special in 20g.
Question. Trigger is light, but slightly creepy. Almost feels like too much oil on the sear. Anyone ever improve their BLR trigger by degreasing it? If so, please detail your method & materials.
Also, I think I'll pick up the Browning scout mount and forward-scope it. Anyone have direct experience with using a rear peep and the stock brass-bead front sight over the top of one of those? Again, if so please share details of the peep, sight height clearance (or not), etc.
By the way, for all levergunners whose fate or (poor???) life choices have led them to northern climes, its been in the mid 60s and just beautiful here in North Carolina!
True, they're usually pretty heavy. That's partially why I bought this particular one. It is, for the model, on the light side. It's probably around 4.5-5 pounds. My problem with it is that it is creepy, too.
Been researching the situation on other forums, and it looks like there's a specialist in PA named Neil Jones. I'm thinking about sending the rifle to him. I'd love to get the trigger down to take-up (its a bit like a military 2-stage, but apparently that can't ever be eliminated) and then a crisp 3lb break.
Honestly, the main question I have is about whether or not the Browning scout-mount permits the use of a receiver mounted peep sight. That, and if it does whether or not the stock front sight has to be replaced. Just can't find a definitive answer on that anywhere.
Think I'll call Ashley Outdoors / XS Sights down in TX and ask them what they think. I heard somewhere that they have a ramped front sight for the BLR, so they should know about the whole thing.
