Blaine, Brad & Griff,
Do you guys use the vintage Circe wooden ones?
As y'all know I'm into vintage and would prefer to purchase vintage.
But 'WOW' $$$ is this the norm for vintage calls?

Was thinking same thing Mike. There are 5 yotes on game land at least. I'm going to target them rest of season. Timely thread

My first choice is the Crit'r'call. Don't hold me to the spelling. For a cheap and foolproof option try the Johny Stewart Mini cottontail. It's closed reed, simple but still brings em in.

Re: Predator Call Question.
I've called foxes and magpies many times with that method but mostly just suck on the back of my hand, I taught my son to call predators that way and he has had them come close enough to touch.BlaineG wrote:I can't prove it, but, I'll bet a blade of grass between the thumbs would work tolerable well....

the past couple years than deer. I really don't think there
trapped or hunted much anymore around these parts.
Re: Predator Call Question.
Yeah, I have taken a few fox every year, especially during late season. I have traps and a furtaker license but plan on just calling and shooting. Like game keeper, for the last 10 years, I have just sucked on back of my hand. If they are in the area, they come running. I have used a 357 smith, flintlock, .223, .6mm, and long bow to take fox. Seeing the yotes on game lands has me really interested in targeting them, and, since I'm out do deer tags, it's the only game in town!

Re: Predator Call Question.
Hey Mike just a heads up, check the regs.
If I remember right, you have a have a valid unused doe or buck tag to
be legal to hunt yot during the rifle deer season. Technically you're
deer hunting but able to legally shoot a yot.

Re: Predator Call Question.
I've used a Sceery jackrabbit call for years now. I finally broke the reed and had to replace it so the sound is slightly different now. I use a Circe squeaker when the get closer.
This is the go-to store...
http://www.allpredatorcalls.com/
I tried a Foxpro electronic call for the first time this year....All I called in was a herd of Angus. They came from over half a mile away at a run. They even veered off once and ran a different direction. I think they chased my incoming coyote away. Then the made a beeline straight for us. We finally had to stand up and wave them off before we and our call got trampled. I didn't think I could outrun them on crutches
When it's not the rut, I've had great success calling in Mule deer using the jackrabbit call by blowing it like a fawn or doe bleat. Like fish on a wire. I've had bucks come so close I could poke them in the ribs with my .30-30 trapper. (again, not thinking things out to well ahead of time)

Re: Predator Call Question.
Come to Wyoming..no license, no tag, no limit even for noun-residents..I like Circe jackrabbit and a little grey one made by Jones..sometimes a call made or bought somewhere else will get 'email to come in..have had as many as 6 dogs show up at a setup..(only got two that time) lots of times three on the run each wanting to be first..finally went to an AR..one guy with a BIG shotgun and #4 buck is handy when that happens...

Mescalaro, is there a model number on that Burnam woodpecker call? I'd love to try one but didn't see one listed by that name.
Re: Predator Call Question.
I don't know.
I own it as a cassette tape.
I play it on a regular battery operated cassette player with a remote speaker set up away from me.

Re: Predator Call Question.
If you are expeienced at calling varmits, you will be stunned at the speed and reckless abandon they come to it.
I attribute to it being one they don't often hear.

Re: Predator Call Question.
Well here's what I just purchased.
It's hand made in Kentucky.
Though it's not vintage, if the maker ever gets famous on
an A&E TV show the call will be worth much more than an old one.

Re: Predator Call Question.
Can I have the lanyard?
I have one like that that I clipped the spring shorter so I could insert my Circe squeaker above the spring. Works great and they don't clatter together. The two calls are always around my neck when I'm in the deer woods.

Thanks for posting
I keep finding obstacles in my own way of getting to the woods (even though I live in them)
Used to see red and grey fox around here quite a bit, but not in the past few years. Don't see a lot of things now that the hogs have moved in. Don't know if those are related or not.
