Just signed up on this website.I am not new to lever guns as the very first one I used was a Mod 1894 win in 32-40 cal.It had a cresent buttplate and a full oct barrel.
I also shoot a mod 94 in 30-30 and a mod 64 in 32 win spcl. Most recent find was a Mod 88 in 308 win which needed a new stock because the previous owner wacked it off for his girlfriend to use.Now after a restocking with a Boyds and several coats of oil finish it looks great.I have been using 150 gr speer magtips #2025 which they discontinued, and 45.0 grs Win 748 in PPU brass. With the factory sights it shoots under 2" 3 shot groups at 50yds.
Any comments or help?

43.5 gr of H4895 with a 150gr Hornady SP. This load shot well in the BLR (which shoots everything very good) and excellent in the Savage 99. I just don't remember how well it shot in the 88. I was looking for a load that shot well in all three.
Were you happy with your Boyds stock? I was just handling the 88 the other day and thinking about rebarreling to 358 and getting a different stock to reshape and turn it into a carbine. I have too many 308's to shoot. So maybe 358 win conversion or a 30-06 to 35 whelen in a browning 1895.

Fed 150s shoot so well, sometimes 1/2" at 100 yds for 3 that I seldom reload for mine.

I have a couple of targets shot from an 88. 41 and 43 grains of 3031, Rem CoreLokt bullets. 1.5 inches at 100 yards all the time, sometimes better.

Welcome Aboard, Do you still have the 32/40?
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

My brother is the keeper of that 32.40.as for the 30.30,it is most adequate for deer.I have seen deer hit with a 7mm rem mag and not recovered because of "poor"shot placement.Too many people today are not hunters just shooters. We used to tent camp in the mountains of central Pa the first week of deer season and always had at least a 50% success rate.99% of shots were one shot kills and longest any of tracked a wounded deer was 100yds. raining today so I am going to load for the 88..
