My new Rio Grande 45-70 is put together !

Well, I took it to work and put a little more stain on the stock and forend.

I then installed Skinner Express Sights and a plug screw. I then installed the sling and spruced her up a bit.

I did not install the Skinner front sight as I will shoot it to see how high it prints, I also left the rear buckhorn sights on as they don't get in my way and they may be extra insurance for some sight failure out in the woods, who knows !

After getting her in my possession I'm very surprised on how light the gun is, I will make my loads accordingly, no reason to have shoulder surgery because of this gun. I think 405-425gr at ~1500fps is more than enough to tell you the truth. I will shoot 405gr trapdoor loads to see how that feels at first !

The gun is put together pretty well and I have no complaints .... the trigger pull is light, maybe 2-3 lbs, if that !

This gun should be a real shooter !

Put a big ol' .458" hole in a long thin barrel, and it lightens things up quite a bit...!

You're most likely going to find that the rear bbl iron sight WILL partially obstruct your FOV, especially during a suddenly-presented shot @ game. (BT, DT - NTS)

Yep, I take the sling apart and assemble it the way I like the looks. This sling is just used for carrying and is set so I can wrap under left arm, that is it.

Using this type of sling, I set up all my rifles this way. Most of my slings though are just strap types.

No, that not for me. I have lots of Leadhead 425gr GC boolits and lots of Rem 405gr SP, they should last me a lifetime.

That factory installed Weaver scope base is an eye-sore, much better lookin' with the peep-sight. I gotta git me one in stainless steel to help deal with the salty Hawaiian air.

That looks nice for sure, and be very functional in the rugged mountains of Hawaii. Hawaii has some pretty rugged areas, it's not just beautiful beaches for sure .
