Well here she is, may do a a little more on the stock and give her a spit and polish.

She needs a case so I can put her to bed till she is called upon, looking for a comfy case for her now ;- )

I was walking around with this gun a bit ago, and for those that have not held the 16 Inch version ..... man alive it is quick, it points and moves like lightning ! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Marlin 94's, but they are heavier guns and are slower moving .... very solid, but slower moving.

Again I'm impressed, the gun is a joy, but yes there is some work that needs to be done, once you get them.

I took off any excess oil (did not have to much) and cleaned the best I could without taking her all apart. Got rid of that hideous safety and will blue Lock Tite the child proof hammer lock ..... if that came loose in a time of serious need, you would be a dead duck for sure !

Use red locktite at least, or just remove it completely. I thought perhaps that there would be a strong detent to keep it in the unlocked position, but there is not - only friction to prevent it from turning. I have known people who had Taurus pistols lock on them while shooting.

You can just tap the hole, screw in a plug and leave it long, and then heat and tap it with a hammer before filing it down flush. You can do it with locktite and no heat if you prefer. A little bit of bluing and it will be pretty much invisible.

Thanks for the input, yes, I don't like the hammer lock at all, and as I said and you have known, to have that screw back out in time of danger in bear country or in a fight or flight situation, way to dangerous !

Looks like you have some good grained wood to work with. Didn't see it before but it now looks great.
Under the black stuff i found good grain on my early rossi 92 but I have no idea of what kind of wood it is. your stock looks like the same kind of wood. weight of maple, grain of mahogany, stains like hickory???? You know what the wood species is on these things?? Again looks great.

Well, I tied the back end of the sling up by running a strip of leather through it and it is kept in place by two wood beads. Don't know if I'll do the same to the front, that may be to much !

I think it looks pretty cool !
