Gentlemen, I have been fighting the temptation for months now, but finally caved in this past week when a friend of mine dangled several vintage Winchesters in front of my face. The one I ended up shelling out the cash for has the following Cody information:
Type: Rifle Caliber: 30 (30-30) Barrel Type: Round Trigger: Plain
1/2 Magazine
Takedown Received in warehouse on March 30, 1903 Shipped from warehouse on March 31, 1903, Order number 182256
The rifle I bought is the top rifle in both photos. The bottom rifle is a 38-55 and he would not part with that one. Feast your eyes, lads.

Amazing wood, and a tang site to boot. Did he shoot it with the tang while the rear sight was still on? I see a number of lever and singles outfitted like that and always wondered. A takedown 38/55 too, what a conservative value on that?
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres
250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!
He is more of a collector rather than a shooter, so he never shot that 30-30. However, the rear sight is the special flat top one that I've seen with other factory installed tang sights. I don't know what sort of value he would put on the 38-55. It letters as having fancy wood. It is a beautiful rifle as well.

Jerry, not this fall. This year I'm using my original Winchester Model 1873 44-40 for deer hunting.

I already have a 30-30 Carbine and a lot of brass. I only have a box or two loaded right now but will make up the rest soon.

I think it should do well, Nath, with that half mag. I'm looking forward to trying it out. I wanted to get another 30-30 to go with my carbine. Now, if my wife and I are in a shoot-out, we can toss each other ammo. I'll take the carbine, she gets the rifle.

Now now Kirk....in a shoot out you don't want to be throwing things at each other....wait 'till after to settle any domestic issues!
VERY nice TD Kirk. Every TD that I'm come across is way outta my budget (cash on hand... low impulse control)... But, I might have to actually ask the wife for permission (& extra cash) if I ran across one like that!!!!
