Mosquito netting

Post by handirifle »

A few years ago, I bought a decent, light weight, camo bug suit from Wally world, I think. It was on sale cheap and so far I like most everything about it. It's the guile suit type.

The only thing I didn't like was the netting that came from the hood over your face. It was dark black and you could hardly see out of it. And in sunshine, the heat was unbearable. Our deer seasons are early here (rifle season starts tomorrow) and sometimes mosquitos and little black flies are a real PITA.

My question is where do I find some mosquito net material. I have some pull over head nets, but I liked the attached version on the suit, plus it save me from carrying another one.

I'd like to sew on a nice light or medium tan colored one. A very light green would be OK also.

Any suggestions on where to look?

Yea the prob with chees cloth is it's inconsistent.

I did the search but couldn't find anything I could see just one layer of. They all seem to show it folded up. My problem is I still need visibility through it. Maybe find some white and dye it beige?

From deer? I always thought they could not see that well. I understand breaking up your outline, but I've had deer walk right up to me at eye level and graze on the redbuds five feet away. If he's worried about that I'd suggest it's no reason to worry. Now black flies and mosquitoes I worry about.
Kind regards,

.

FWIW, I fiddles around (MANY years ago) with green and tan netting, before discarding all of it in favor of black netting.

The reason I did so is that the black's easier to see through than the other colors - which tend to become brighter in direct (sun) light, making it difficult to even see game, much less aim.

Even the blck though, can be a PITA to sight/aim through.

The other's are correct - Thermocell wasn't around until a few years ago, and it'll keep an area of about 8' around you clear of flying insects (provided it's not a very windy day).

It works great on Canadian Spring bear hunts - which are not known for their bug-free enviroment.

I wish it was available, those many years ago........................

Well the thermocell is a no no in a number of ways here. It's drier than an oven here and ANYTHING that gets hot is a fire risk I do not want to take. I move around to much (walking) to carry one anyway.

It has to be a net for me.

It came with a black one and I couldn't see squat through it and tore it out. Black is out. I can deal with the sunlight.

Have you tried the Frau's old panty hose over the head? Light nude would be a good color to see thru....
