Setting up new to me Dillon 550, Primer stuck in tube...

Post by zzr7ky »

Hi -

I scored a Dillon 550 with 4 set up tool heads for $300. I used the press before buying and like it.

Anyway, I got it home I am setting it up... There is apparently a small primer wedged in the primer tube about half way down. Naturally I am reluctant to force it. Anyone have any insight or experience?

Thanks,
Mike

Call Dillon and they will send you a new Tube, Most likely there will be no charge.

BTW; your second hand press is guaranteed for it's life.

Dillon's no BS warranty is one of the best.

I have had several Dillon presses rebuilt and the cost is Zero.

Drop four or five fresh primers down on top of the stuck one and then a brass rod. Smack it with a brass hammer and the stuck one will POP right out.

Pay no attention to me.
Kind regards,

I just take my dillons apart and use the following rod to tap on it from the opposite direction. Usually comes out.

Same here but Dillon Lit. says to send it back.

Soak it in water or oil if want to be on the safe side but I've never set of a primer with the plastic rod.

What a couple of the other fellas said - knock it out with the
plastic rod.

It ain't gonna blow the tube up if the tube isn't blocked.

Just make sure the ends of the tube are pointed in a safe
direction. A little piece of brass in the eye will do ya no good at all....
