DeFresno family with new Blessed Event

Well, I did - bought 5 raffle tickets at 10 bucks apiece for a benefit for some Valley city gendarmes. This is what I ended up with:

(Edited: Resized to save bandwidth)

It's a .45 ACP Para Ordinance (Tactical) Black Ops 1911. Obviously, this is a stock photo, since I could only look at it, heft it a bit, and give it back to the gunstore owner for another 10 days (I'm retired - just another citizen in this uber regulated state).

5” ramped barrel, EGW® HD extractor (whatever that is), oversized and flared ejection port, tactical hammer, black specially bonded Stainless Steel frame & slide, Trijicon® 3-Dot night sights, Beaver Tail grip & ambidextrous thumb Safety, adjustable skeletonized trigger, fancy grips, forward slide friction grip, tactical rail, two (2) 8-round mags. Amazingly, that is the standard package for this model; no wonder the price tag of $1275.00

Wow. Very happy to help our local constabulary; a-hem! Hurry up July 12th...

Yup, Griff... at my age, that IS my baby! And I plan to feed it lots of Pb instead of Pablum.

I can hardly wait until my time is over, what with me being bound up and locked in a room where I can't see the moon... you know, California requires 10 days of watchin' ya before they give you YOUR gun. Kind of like a rabies watch, or perhaps waiting for the werewolf to come out.

It certainly isn't for the background check, because that apparently takes the DOJ months to complete, anyway! Some described it as a waiting period, or a "cool down" period. That dog doesn't hunt, either, with this 114 degree weather.

Thanks for the congrats, gents.

Yes - how 'bout that! Scary stuff. I remember living through the Harlow Fire in Ahwahnee (near you, of course - near Yosemite for the uninformed) when I was 16.

My father and I had sent my mother down the road and to a motel in Fish Camp (right at the Yosemite entrance, up high), and we watered down our house one last time as we saw and heard the roar of the huge conflagration roaring over the rise. Our home was thankfully spared. Many of our neighbors were not so fortunate.

But as we tried to escape in our Jeep via Hwy 49 to Oakhurst, the flames were whooshing like bombs to the left and the right. The little four wheeler was huffing and chugging, due to the rarity of air that its carburetor demanded and was not receiving. We could barely stay ahead of the worst part of the heat as I yelled at Dad to "step on it" and we crawled forward. In several patches of roadway as the road weaved around toward the hot spots, the speedometer indicated we could only maintain 45 mph; during some very harrowing minutes, even less, and we almost stopped.

People frequently don't think about that, and we sure had not considered it: You can die right in the middle of a firestorm in your car, stalled by vapor lock, and roast. That is apparently what happened to an unfortunate elderly couple who they found a bit further up the same road, on the same day or the next morning.

I trust that you didn't get your pinfeathers singed, and hope that there was no loss with you, Don Tomas.
