I gave the grandkids a Crickett .22 - PICS

Post by mod71alaska »

Last weekend I gave a .22 Crickett Youth Rifle "To All The Grandkids" to keep and use at Gramie and Grampa's house. They were totally surprised and thought having their own .22 was very cool! "When can we go shooting? Can we shoot now?"

Image

They did very well shooting .22 shorts at targets and pop cans in the backyard. Owen age 6 is the most gung-ho and thinks he is every action hero he's ever seen! I'm going to have to keep an eye on him!!!
Image

Ella, age 8, consistently was the sharpshooter with tight groups:

I kept their very first target for them:

Smiles around! :D

Every time they come over now the first thing they ask is, "Can we shoot the .22?"

Grampa's happy! :D :D :D

That the best thing we can do for our kids is to show them the fun and right way to own a weapon. By doing this you will not have to read about them finding ammo and being afraid. Great job Grandpa you are keeping the ways passed on to them I salute you.

I gave my brother's kids a Henry Mini-bolt. I like those a little better than the Cricket because there is no stupid bolt-lock-key to lose.

Way to go grandpa.
From that target it looks like Ella could be a sharp shooter in the making.

That is the proper way to raise kids and grandkids. All four kids were raised shooting and so far all the grandkids old enough have been taught also. My dad lost an eye when he was sixteen in a hunting accident. That did not stop him from hunting and teaching the three of us to hunt and enjoy shooting, though our training was VERY strict and to the point.
What is the purple flowers in the background, butterfly weed? We had some for a few years but it died out.

Amazing. Everyone seemed to have fun and nobody took it to school or a movie theater to settle a debt or just to act the fool.

God looking bunch of kids, too.

Great job Gramps, tell Ella I'm real proud of her.

Ella has set the bar plenty high for the rest of them; good for her.

Get one of those 'flip-up' metal targets for 22 LR that has four to flip up and one that resets them down. They'll love competing with that, and can make games of all sorts using it.

Two of my kids would each take their 22 LR's, and shoot their own flip-up set, with the first one to flip all four of his/her targets the winner. They quickly figured out to keep an eye on the other shooter, and if they were ahead, the laggard would shoot the 'reset' button of the other guy's target...

Good on you, Victor ! Their smiles say it all........................................

Over 20 years ago, I bought/gave my first (now oldest) Grandson a .22 Chipmunk, which was just his speed. . :)

Of course, in several years later, he wanted/got a 10/22 as a replacement for popping Squills.

He/we still have that Chipmunk, though.

For kids I prefer the hinged action single shots. Use them my self when shooting pests around the house. Very easy to check chamber for loaded/empty. The hammers are easier to cock for little hands that the spring powered strikers and easier to release if they decide not to shoot. Very obvious whether they are cocked or not.

Good on you sir! This is the kind of thing that is going to make the difference in the future. Every kid you teach to enjoy the shooting sports is like cutting a hundred thousand dollar check to the NRA.
I try and help young folks when I can. I've worked with our sons friends and my wife's bosses son, with both shooting and getting them started in handloading.
That's a great looking bunch of new shooters Gramp. You must be very proud.
