Winchester Model 75 Project. Picture Heavy.
A friend of mine found this Win 75 and a Luger in a house he was cleaning out for a Mort. Co.
He gave me the Winchester and gave the Luger to my Dad. Long story but he owed us one.
Good kid, just a little off.
Anyway, the Luger is in excellent shape but the Winchester was on the floor and had been getting wet for years. The bolt handle, trigger guard and barrel were heavily rusted. The butt plate, rear sight and magazine were gone completely.
So I just happened to have a second cousin heading off to gun smithing school and needed some projects!
I gave him the .22 about a year ago and just got it back.
I think he did a pretty darned good job! Since it was pretty well ruined I had asked him to re-barrel it but his instructor decided that since the bore was still in excellent shape that they could save it. He ground off the HEAVY rust just in front of the receiver and lightly polished the rest of it. Same with the bolt. There's a bit of a low spot just in front of the receiver from the rust removal on the barrel but barely noticeable.
I'd found a military proofed stock on GB with all the missing stock hardware and gave it to James ( and he proceeded to loose my new butt plate! ).
Now all I need is a Lyman 58E peep and another butt plate. I picked up a couple magazines at a show.

I don't think he polished that bolt-handle enough - not enough shine. Tell him he needs to re-do it...

Sorry Doc. I'll sand it back down so I don't attract any undue drone attention.

Thanks Guys!
Once the kid gets to his new job I'll put it up.
He's heading for Louisiana to a large Sporting goods shop that has a full time gun smith that is looking to retire. James will work for him for the next year or two and then take over. Good kid and his Mom, my favorite cousin, is very proud that he found is own way and wants to do something fun for a living.

That's awesome......you can never have too many 22s and those 75's were some of the best anyone ever made.
