The first one was born in 69 and the second one i picked up yesterday. It has a L prefix so from what i have read its a 54. I cant find mountie on the gun is this something they added later?
The top one appears to be slimmer in the foreend.
Is this true?
My parts gun 39 does not yet have a fore end, and I want it to be slimmer than any 39 I have seen to date.
Anybody got a spare fore end?

I don't have a spare, but my Cabela's $300 Golden 39M had its price in part due to someone having whittled down the forend to a skinny configuration. That was fine by me, as I've never like the looks of the fat things Marlin insists on calling forends. Their removal of the sling studs and doing a "creative" job of filling in the holes was t'other reason for the price and is something I'm not so keen on.
Not the best image, but here it is with my 9422.
Sorry about yanking the thread off into another direction.
