115GC bullets for 30-30 load info?

Post by JNG »

I ordered some 115GC bullets for my Glenfield 30-30. They will be used for critters and plinking. Try as I might
I can not find any load info. Can you folks help me out?

Thanks,

4-5 grains of Unique or Bullseye. Or, 8 grains of IMR 4064. I've done both with my .308's, big fun and little noise.
The pistol powder is a lot louder.

20 grs of REL 7 and the RCBS 115 is very accurate in my 336, I give it Five stars .

I found this load in the Lyman 48th reloading handbook in the TC section.

I have used 8 gr. with 140 gr. cast GC bullets. I was looking to match factory ammo POA at 25 & 50 yards.

8 grs of Unique or Universal will run right around 1500 fps with good accuracy.
If you want to go faster, 16 / 2400 or 18 / 4227 or 4759 will do 2000 or thereabouts.

I can't ethically spread around load data from a paid-subscriber site, but AmmoGuide.com shows 52 loads for bullets 120 grains and under (down to 50 grains). The highest number (28) are for 110 grain bullets.

AmmoGuide.com is worth the few bucks a year to subscribe.

Last month I was playing with 115 gr. gas check 32-20 bullets (sized .311) made with #2 alloy in the 30-30 for using on chickens and pigs during metallic silhouette.

Accuracy was great at 50 yards (1 and 1/2) but opened up too much for my liking at 100 (4-6") My testing was only a one day experiment with about 50 rounds so it does not tell a lot. I do believe the twist in a 30-30 is too fast for such a short bullet so maybe pure linotype will help more. I'll try that next. 7 grains of Unique was the best but velocity was only 1400. I was using a Model 55 takedown Winchester made in '24 that has a perfect bore and shoots 175 gr. cast into less than 2" at 100...as long as it don't heat up.--------Sixgun

If you like light lead bullets in the .30/30, go to Marlinowners.com, go to the reloading section and there is a 50 page sticky with 5 or 6 years or expeirmenting by some knowledgeable levershooters.... .DT

I've always used 4-8grs of Red dot and Unique, or 10-15grs of 2400. With all my cast boolits from 113 to 170 grs.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres
