Extra Glock 20

Post by octagon »

Bought myself a Gen 4 Glock 20 recently for my birthday. My brother bought me a Gen 3 20 and brought it to the party to surprise me. I have been shooting the Gen 4 and love it, it is a hoot. The Gen three is still NIB. I thought about doing a 50 GI conversion on the Gen 3, or maybe giving it to my boy when he is big enough, and a friend is interested in the Gen 3. After reading all the Glock 20 threads of late I thought you boys might have some input on what to do with the extra Glock. Thanks for any input, as I am on the fence on this one.

Personally, I'd hang on to it, unless you need the money....

2 is 1 and 1 is none. It's not like you have to feed it or buy it it's own room. :) I would store that sucker away for the kid or a rainy day.

NY backup? Cross draw? Ankle?

There are a lot of interesting options. Two is better than one I think.

Of all of the guns I have sold over the years, the only one I regretted enough to chase down and buy it back was my G20.

Keep it. Buy more mags and enjoy it.

I don't know the difference between "generations" of Glocks, so anyone chiming in to educate me or others with the same lack of information, could help educate me/us.

I see so much 40 S&W on shelves of stores without any other handgun ammo, that it makes me think "I wish I had a 40 S&W", even though I never could see a good reason to prefer a 16-shot 40 S&W over my 14-shot 45 ACP.

Do not sell!!!!!!! 10mm is making a resurgence and there are several manufacturers. None compare to jthe Glock. I'm planning to get a 29 to compliment the 20SF. Also getting some .40 barrels for cheap plinking.

The .50GI is hard to resist.

Throw in a .45 barrel and now you have a G21.

Gen 3 is the last of the 'classic' Glocks, the Gen 4 has the newer grip texturing and removable backstrap system since after 10 years of Glock USA telling Glock Austria they needed to have them or they'd lose market share, the Austrian Perfectionists finally had to shut up and listen (got that direct from a Glock rep one day....long, long convo....).

The Gen 4s have had some occasional problems in certain calibers (9mm/.40) since they redesigned a few parts for more commonality between calibers, and that caused it's own issues.... but for the most part, they still run very well.

Thanks for the input guys. I don't often sell guns, the only reason I consider it is that the friend in town is a Nam Marine, and a good guy. The long slide mentioned by Steve is more suited to my needs than a 50 GI, as I have not made any ammo in a long time. There are a few big hogs at the ranch, I think that 10mm on big ones is a pretty good rig, and more firepower than the 1911 I usually carry out there.

This is a hilarious pic ! -- I haven't seen it in a couple of years but glad someone brought it out !!

I'm thinking that is probably a Fruitopia, or maybe a diet Snapple tucked into the front of that husky Ninja's flak vest ---- he's thinking ahead that he might be parched after doing some action movie type stuff ! ------ remembering to hydrate is smart

-- the guy in front of him has 8 pistol mag holders as well :o -- that's a lot of hot action
