BLR 22 for $275?

I found a BLR 22, one good scrape on the stock and peppered pretty well with rust on the outside, perfect bore and action, for $275. I've always wanted one but the other one over in the rack was $550, and that's just too much for me as it's always been on these little guys. Well anywho, for those kind of shekels I figured it'll make a nice clean up project. What do you think?

I think if the bore and action are fine, its a great deal. The New Henry's are going for that and more, and as much as I like mine, i'd take a BLR over it any day.

That is a nice discount on a good shooter! The last one I have seen anyplace for $275 was the one I bought in 2009. I paid $275+$30 for shipping + $25 for the FFL = $335. It is in really nice shape, but at the time I shopped around and most decent guns were $325+. You won't find one for less money, so buy it and use it. You won't be disappointed!

Frontier Big 45 (google) should clean up the rust on that BL-22 (the .22's aren't "BLR's"), w/o effecting the bluing, should you get it.

Sounds great and you know how to refinish but somehow I don't think it will ever meet your standards - as yet I have not seen a beater in your picks.

I did lay it away, so it's a done deal unless she comes back stolen between now and the 16th when I can claim it (background check on trade-ins, they check to see if it's been reported stolen).

Thanks for the suggestion on the Big 45 cleaning material - I'll give that stuff a try. I've used Hoppes and steel wool in the past, but this stuff sounds like an advancement over that.

Doc, my milsurps are all pretty much beaters! I can't afford mint Mausers or M1s.

The BL-22 seems to be a great lever action 22. I decided I liked it better than either the Marlin or Henry.

When you get through with your refurishment project - you'll have a good addition to your arsenal.

Had a BLR-22. Mine was not particulary accurate. Sold it down the road and years later bought a Henry, not as pretty, but the Henry 's got it beat in the accuracy department. I'm a HUGE fan of Browning pre 81's, 86 carbines and model 71's. Perhaps i just got a bad one?

That's about what I gave for the one I bought used in the early-90s. It would take the cost of a new one PLUS the cost of a Browning ATD in decent shape to pry it from my hands. THAT'S how much I like mine!

tman, I'm going to say you got a dud for some reason. Mine may not be a one holer but it will hit anything I care to shoot within the limitations of the .22LR and my skill set.

I can't pin down exactly what that is offhand (Swiss or French?) but I sure do like it...

You might have got a bad one. I shot a Henry next to my BL-22. The BL-22 had dime sized groups and the Henry had quarter sized groups. The Henry sights were coarser than the Browning to my old eyes.

Hope so! My browning levers are my finest rifles. I bought the BL used, so maybe somebody screwed it up before I got It.

I picked up one of he youth sized BL-22's last fall - its great to shoot and my wife can easily hold it up!
