I'm not going to buy it as I'm broke but just curious as to what you guys think about this gun.
Civil War S&W 1st Mod, 3rd Issue - $800 (Oahu)
Authentic Civil War S&W 1st model, 3rd Issue pistol. 94 to 96% nickel retained. Excellent mechanics. These are going to be harder and harder to find. Markings and inscriptions on top of barrel. Only serious inquiries please with genuine intent to buy. This is selling for $1,000 and up on mainland antique stores. This is the first cartridge ammo fitted to revolvers and it was Smith & Wesson who did it. Own a authentic part of history.

I think the price is a couple of hundred dollars high. The third issue Number 1 was made from 1868 to about 1882, so it is NOT a civil war era gun. All that said, these are neat little guns and fun to collect. The Number 1s were the first metallic cartridge firearms made in this country, with the first-issue Number 1 coming out in 1858. They were the first revolvers that had bored-through cylinders. Roland White patented the concept and offered the patent to Colt. Colt turned them down, and the rest is history!

Yep, .22 short black powder. Of course, when the gun was made there was no such thing as .22 long and long rifle cartridges. The cartridge was simply called the .22 Smith and Wesson. I would not want to shoot modern, smokeless standard or high velocity shorts in this gun. I have heard of folks using .22 short CBs in them, but have been reluctant to do this myself.

You are correct but sometimes sellers sneak in a gun sale in under the radar until some observant liberal doing his civic duty reports the ad.
