Just wanted to say howdy. I've always been a fan of lever guns from as far back as I could remember. Always thought they were so cool. So once I got into firearms it was only fitting to get one.
My first was a Marlin 336 in 30-30. Sold it and then I got a Marlin 1894 Cowboy Limited in .44 Mag. I still have that but dropped it on it's butt stock the first day at the range. That was disappointing. Works fine, just cracked the buttplate a bit.
Figured I needed to get another lever that really drew me to it. Went with a Henry Big Boy .44 Mag. I haven't shot it yet, but i'm really liking it so far. Very smooth action and absolutely beautiful. So much so i've already told the local shop to hold me a Big Boy .357 as well as a Mare's Leg in either .357 or .44 when they arrive.
The build quality is outstanding on the Henry. Very, very, well done. Impressive to say the least. It has definitely started my addiction to Henry Repeaters.
You are in sooooo much trouble now! You came here and said you have a few leverguns. By the end of 2013 you will have half a dozen more and wanting more yet. The guys around here are enablers of the first degree......AND THE FINEST GROUP OF GUYS YOU ARE EVER GONNA FIND ON THE INTERNET...WELCOME!
a Pennsylvanian who has been accused of clinging to my religion and my guns......Good assessment skills.
and welcome to THE Forum. I've never been a fan of the company, or it's products. But... I recently had the opportunity to shoot a couple of their .30-30s. One of which I did like, and if I felt the need for a newly made .30-30, I'd surely consider one. I see the quality, just not a fan of the design.

There is a fine line between hobby & obsession! AND... I'm over it!!
No I ain't ready, but let's do it anyway!
Thanks guys. I'm looking forward to putting some rounds through it. I know they aren't actually like the Henry's of old and these use a Marlin design in their operation, but from everything i've read they are sturdy, well built, quality lever guns. That, plus the fact that they are a family owned company and all made in the USA makes me proud to own one. I also appreciate the fact that there is no external safety on them.
I plan to get a Skinner barrel mounted peep sight for them too.
Welcome to the forum from one of the gals who loves her lever guns. Haven't been bitten by the Henry bug, yet, but with more and more people I know shooting Henry's, just a matter of time. Please let us know how your new Henry shoots.
Welcome
like the way you put it, Its American made & proud to own the gun!
I have a 357 & a 22 mag, need a 22 now, there good guns
Another great gun to go broke on is the pre 64 Model 94 Winchester
throw in a few 92s to really seal the deal
I think you are going to really like that gun. They are really well done and the actions are fairly smooth right out of the box.
You will see some complaints mostly from the CAS shooters that didn't like the way they were originally promoted for CAS. Some feel they jumped the gun claiming it was SASS legal before it was actually approved and some don't like the idea that they are using the Henry name. Some just don't care for the tube load only feature. It does add some forward weight but with the 20" octagon it balances fairly well.
To me that's all non-issues. They are true American made guns. To do that in todays litigious society is just amazing to me.
Some feel the brass like receiver won't handle the 44mag pressures. But, the reality is it's not brass. It is some sort of ferrous metal that will actually attract a magnet. Some think it's plated but I have actually drilled and tapped the tang for a peep site and the chips/swarf are attracted to the magnet, too. So, whatever it is it's solid through.
Welcome to the forum. There is something about lever guns that just gets ahold of a fellow.

I just got word yesterday that my Big Boy .357 has arrived at the shop and awaiting me to pick it up. I think that will be a nice surprise after work today. No word on when my Henry Mares Leg is due to arrive.
I plan to shoot them as is, and most likely pick up some Skinner barrel mounted peep sights for them. I may get a receiver mount peep sight as well to see how I like it.
I feel like I need a belt with bullet loops in it.

This "Site" will be hazardous to your wallet. I had one Winchester when I joined and now I find that I've added three Brownings. AND there are still Marlins, Henrys and Rossis out there.
