Crows and the 870 and close action with a fox.

Post by Nath »

Prised the 870 out the safe today and set some decoys infront of a blind.
That little 20g is a peach.

I shot lessthan 50% but did get a couple of doubles in and a few far ones.

The night before a vixen stepped out 7yards in front of me, a complete surprise.
Up came the 94 and dang it, I shot low! With a busted leg I knew she would stop and stop she did. I soon closed the gap and got the job finnished.

You must have some dumb crows. Shoot at one around here, and the word goes out on the crow network and you'll be lucky to see another one that day.

Mossy, mod' choked. I have a Imp'cyl but can't hit a thing with it!

1oz and a few 1&1/16oz english 6's and 5's. I think our sizes are one size smaller than yours!

They not dumb, just so many of them! It's been a long cold winter and as soon as a field is worked they hit it from every direction.
If you time it right and can get on the first field to be worked in the area better take plenty shells!

That sounds like a blast Nath. My experience calling crows is similar to Chas. Call in a group of them, and get as many shots off as you can, because they won't be coming back that day. If you want to get into any more, going to have to drive a couple miles into some fresh ones, that haven't heard your calls before. Very smart birds.

I was just talking yesterday about the collective noun word for many crows. It's a 'murder' of crows.

Mess/murder = a bunch.

Nice shooting, Nath. You must REALLY not like crows! You got me thinking...there might be a few too many crows around here. Not much else going on during breakup.

As always, thanks for posting your stories and photos here!

Nice shooting Nath.

I'm wondering do you eat the crows or is it pest elimination/egg protection?

Nath always takes nice pictures! They show emotion even on the dead things. :D

I do have a question for you Nath. With such an accumulation of dead stuff, what do you do with it all? Did a shallow grave and toss 'em? :D --------------Sixgun

Good shootin' Nath! Every time the crows come up around my place... and I even walk outside with a firearm, they're in the wind!

That many crows in Brit it's a wonder any ground nesting birds left!

Spring is nearly here! Late this year. Hedges just about to green up and the trees are in bud.

Dead stuff, shallow graves, na, even buzzards gotta' eat!

Ive always found that you have to hit the first shot, then especially if that bird is wounded and squeaking, the others will hold a "wake" for that bird and you get multiple shots. Miss the first shot and you need find new territory.
