Spray-on Hydrophobic For Plastic

Post by Blaine »

Rain-X does not work on helmet visors or motorcycle windshields, etc....does anyone know of a solution that will work on plastic, plexiglass, polycarbonate, etc?

Shaving crème, the foamy kind in a can works pretty good. Also keeps the shield clean. I have also had to use my spit on my eyeglasses to keep them from fogging up on a "warm" rainy day. Yeah let the comments fly, but it works. :)
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

I'm a huge fan of Pledge....it cleans, and keeps it from scratching, but, does not make visors and windshields water-free......I use Pledge on guns, glasses....almost anything 8)

Almost any good Past Wax will work well.

"Mr Zog's..." ("The best wax for your stick") actually works really well if you are around salt spray...

All interesting suggestions, but, none are hydrophobic

What about the 'silicone sprays' or 'Thompson Water-Seal'...???

I guess I don't get it somehow...

I always thought Paste wax was essentially hydrophobic.

I have a product I got in AK that is sold to prevent snowmachine helmet fogging but it is little more than a silicone wax & a surfectant. Works pretty well though.

Spit is not too bad for anti-fogging..(Another trick for fog is soaking a cloth in heavily soaped water, and then drying it out, then wipe as necessary)...having rain repelled off the front of the visor/windshield is an entirely different manner. Rain-X works on glass, but, not plastic. See a Rain-X YouTube if you don't understand what I'm talking about.

I know rain-x. I made the mistake of using it on wheelhouse glass once. It seems to be offended by salt water.

Doesn't the airstream blow the visor clean?
