Pay no attention. Watch for earthquake though.
I've been following a pattern. If it is true, expect seismic activity on the pacific rim in the next seven days.
Then again, I am most likely wrong.

We have a full moon, in the next day or so, so that should help.

I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

I live next to a major fault line. I work in a brick building next to the same fault line! Earthquakes would never happen in Christchurch and Auckland they said. The two they had in Auckland last week were under an extinct volcano.

I live on top of a major fault, it cracked the foundation of the house and lowered one corner by half a foot... but that's not a big deal.
Cascadia subduction zone IS a big BIG deal, same setup as Japan's big one. two continental plates grating on each other.

I live in AZ. I'll bust out BBQ and expect beach front property.
I guess we have a few volcanoes that could theoretically cook off around here, but... meh.

Don't matter if your wrong or not, just the thought of all those leftists taking a big swim brings joy to my heart. Of course, I'm sure Old Savage will be vacationing inland a bit, just over the east side of the fault line.------------Sixgun

We are at 2350 ft with a pass in here that is over 3000 ft. Fault line is about 7 miles west of here but there are many, many fault lines running through the LA basin.

Yeah, highly unlikely, they been dead for millenia. They aren't the nasty kind either, those live over subduction zones like in the Pacific NW. All those copper deposits in S. AZ are thought to be the roots of systems like Mt. St. Helens, but those formed roughly 70 million years ago. IIRC, the coast was then somewhere in the current Mohave desert, and the nice parts of S. CA were a big island that came along with the subducting plate and got glommed onto the NA continent. Of course it's been 20 years since I took that class, so I may be glossing over the detailsPanzercat wrote:I live in AZ. I'll bust out BBQ and expect beach front property.

I'm about 4 feet above sea level a mile upstream from the Pacific. Tsunami maps say I'm 3/4 miles out of danger zone. I wonder how they figure that? I've seen Tsunami videos from Japan. 1 mile inland was underwater in seconds.

We had a 7.8 up here last October, and another 7.0 in January, I think it was. Put some nice cracks in the wall and knocked some things over.

Re: Pay no attention. Watch for earthquake though.
I lived about 2 miles from the Inglewood fault and 10-20 miles from the San Andrais fault for 60 years and always kept that thought in the back of my mind (emergency supplies/mindset) waiting for the "big one". I moved to the Oregon Coast and breathed a sigh of relief, until a couple days ago. There was a report on the News that stated scientists are "expecting a huge quake", "overdue by 100 years" from the Cascadia fault just off the coast. Oh well, I have supplies and power for a couple weeks so I'll jes ferget about it. If I fall into the ocean that's ok too, as I always wanted to be buried at sea...

if there is a lahar from ranier you maybe might be submerged in mud
if cascadia kicks off your place is likely to wind up 20 feet higher above sea level than it is now

I don't have no faults.
I'm just on a huge plate siding towards Japan, sometimes a very bumpy ride. Everyone else's faults effect me negatively in the form of tsunamis.

Re: Pay no attention. Watch for earthquake though.
After the 7.8 in October the ground has been shaking pretty much non stop. Had to abandon ship twice in three months due to tsunami alerts. Some aftershocks have been over magnitude 6, most are about 3 or so. I think they said over 10,000 aftershocks since October. The 7.8 was the first quake that actually put the lights out for a bit, pretty creepy.

Where abouts are you on Queen Charlotte? I see a cluster on the southern outside coast, and another clatter inland close to Prince Rupert.
The line of quakes outside of QCI looks to be on the Cascadia fault, is that correct? I am in Puget Sound and we aren't getting anything we can feel yet, not like that.
Yeah, it's on the big one:

Re: Pay no attention. Watch for earthquake though.
Well I am pretty far east of the fault, at least I THINK I am. I just hope my water tank doesn't slide down the hill when it happens. I'm afraid a hand pump won't do much good down at 400ft.
They keep telling us it's coming and we still live day to day. Of course we keep telling folks Christ is coming back again soon, and they don't listen to that either.

Mikld: Are you in Brookings? We just spent a couple of days on the Oregon Coast -- Newport and Gold Beach -- and they were holding a tsunami drill yesterday. I'll admit that all the talk about the Cascadia subduction zone quake and tsunami makes me a little edgy now when I am at the beach. It should be a doozy when it strikes, maybe a 9.0.

Re: Pay no attention. Watch for earthquake though.
I am on the Northern end near Masset, so we did not get shaken as badly as the middle of the islands. Still it was the biggest shake I have ever felt. The house has a lot of cracks in the drywall now, that were not there before. Some of the aftershocks were not very big, but lasted a LONG time. One was vibrating for just short of 10 minutes.Grizz wrote:Where abouts are you on Queen Charlotte? I see a cluster on the southern outside coast, and another clatter inland close to Prince Rupert.
