OT - You can't get away from it...

even in Arizona. The snow, that is.

We spent the weekend in Flagstaff with some friends...rode the train from Williams up to the Grand Canyon and back on Saturday.

And since this week is spring break for the kids, my wife and the kids headed east from Flagstaff on Sunday morning for Taos, NM. I headed out going west of Flagstaff to our home about 3 hours drive away.

Luckily, I was about 2 hours ahead of the 140 vehicle pileups on I-40 that killed 2 people!!! :( :( Thank goodness my wife and kids ran out of the snow almost immediately going east out of Flagstaff and had a clear but windy (gusts to 50mph) drive to Taos.

I am not a snow driver, but I try to use common sense. But on an Interstate highway full of big rigs going 75mph trying to get to L.A. on Sunday for their Monday loads...when you suddenly hit a whiteout...it's just plain maximum pucker time!

Northern Arizona can be a dangerous and unpredictible place in the winter and early spring!

Joe,
I drive a big truck and I can tell you, when that happens it's time to get off the road.

My Dad lives in Flagstaff and this year has him wanting to get down off the mountain! :o Glad you guys made it out OK. :)

I certainly agree with all of that, Rusty!

Unfortunately, when you top a mountain on the freeway and hit whiteout and the next exit is 15 miles away, there is nothing to do but drive and survive.
