Had to make a trip down to Little Rock today. After getting most of our things done my grandson pulled into The Gander Mountain store. We were loking in the used racks and I saw a sleek looking little bolt rifle. The hangtag said Imman Meffert $999.99, no caliber on the tag or the rifle.
The two clerks didn't know anything at all about it. It is a single shot double set triggers butter knife bolt, half octagon to round barrel with two folding leaf rear sights. The stock is very slender and thin with alot of checkering, all the metal is very finely engraved even the small screw heads. The bore appears to be more than thirty caliber. On top of the reciever looks to be an integeral scope block but none on the rear of the reciever. We were half way home before we thought pictures, any one have any knowledge of this rifle? not alot on line about them.
Saw an Imman Meffert rifle today!!!!!

Immanuel Meffert was a prominent Suhl, Germany gunmaking company, in business up to WWII.

Always makes me laugh that people can come up with a price to put on something (usually not a small one either) without having any idea what it is or what caliber it might be.
Slow is just slow.

By European & German Proof Law, firearms chambering must be marked on the rifle somewhere - although usually metrically, on a hidden area of the barrel bottom.
What you saw is referred to as a "stalking rifle" : light, well-balanced, handy, & usually very nicely fitted/finished.

Based on your description, this single shot on a Mauser action, there's a very good chance it's chambered for the 8.15x46R cartridge, which is a bit less powerful than a .30-30. The cartridge was also very popular for target shooting. You can form brass for it from the .30-30.

That don't surprise me. Cabela's had a Rolling Block for $439 one time. Caliber was maked as UNKNOWN. Looked like a nice rebarrel job with heavy octagon barrel, Was gonna buy after seeing it there for 6 weeks, but someone else had taken it the day b4. Had a bottle necked chamber and .40 bore. They also had a M92 marked as rebarreled in .22 caliber. Had surface rust over all the metal. That was $600, lasted 2 weeks.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Thanks for all the replys, looks like it would be a real handy stalking rifle. I'll check out the 8.15x46R round.
