140 gr cowboy bullets
I was at the gun shop the other day picking up some primers and stuff and all they had for bullets in 357 was 140 gr cowboy hornday bullet. Never seen any loads for this thing wouldn't have normally got it but pickens are slim these day. I want to shoot it out of my rifle and pistol. All the powder I have on hand are Titegroup and Longshot. Any one have good recipe for 38sp or 357 mag with this bullet and these powders?

Check out the Hodgdon site. They have the Tight-group powder listed under the Cowboy loads for the 140's. You will find the same powder wt. works well for the 125's, 140's & 158's.
Do not push them to fast from a Rifle, remember they go 250-300 fps faster than a revolver. I found out the hard way.

Re: 140 gr cowboy bullets
I shoot RCBS 140`s over 4.0 gr Trail Boss in my .357 Ruger Vaquaros.
Great little CAS load.
The guns just dont get dirty with this load and a quick wipe down is all that is needed until the next shoot.
Have fun!

The Hornady #7 book lists that bullet and TITEGROUP in 38spl with a C.O.L. of 1.1450" as 3.0 to 4.7grains in a S&W M15 w/4" barrel. Longshot was not listed. HTH
Just checked the rifle section, in a Rossi M92 chambered in .357 it shows TITEGROUP running from 2.8gr to 4.3gr with a C.O.L. 1.450. HTH again

Thanks 1894CFAN that's about what I was guessing. I was going to start with 3.5 gr of TG and check for lead fouling. Sounds like I was on track. Thanks for verifying

Re: 140 gr cowboy bullets
The alliant page listed 4 gr Unique for 357 @ around 750 fps, and strangely, 4.5 grains for 38 spl. I never liked the 357 load, but both my rifle and revolver liked the 38 spl load a lot. I ended up using 5.2 grains in the 357 as a target load.
Re: 140 gr cowboy bullets
Little update on the 140 gr. Cowboy bullets. Today I loaded up 200 rounds of these suckers with 38 brass, spm primer (cause its all I had), 3.2 gr of Titegroup C.O.L. Of 1.455. It was excellent in my revolver and my 92. I put 25 in each and it fed smoothly in the 92 and both barrels were surprisingly clean. Nice load!
