A bit ago I traded for a Model 99 takedown, it is shooter not a colector piece. Its shoots fine, getting 2 inch groups at 100 yards off the bench. Barrel has not been removed for a long time and does not want to come lose with keeping the breach well soaked with penitrating oil for some time now.
My questions are
1. Any hints on getting the barrel to come loose? I haven't tried a lot of force, I have thought I might try "chilling the barrel as opposed to heat, and making a spanner to grip the barrel in the lock cut.
2. Think accuracy will be affected once I get the takedown working correctly?
Any hints or opinions would be helpfull.

Make sure the action is open before trying to take down. That is all I know about those type of actions. Good luck!

I have a couple of Savage take downs but never had any problems. Question I have why do you want to break it down? To clean it better? I very seldom take mine down.

Like Iceman says, open the action or you will break the extractor.
Take the forearm off..........Get a propane torch and heat up the barrel shank where it screws into the receiver...............(you just need to heat it up a bit hotter than you can stand it if you touch it................get a piece of nice thick soft leather and wrap it around the barrel towards the receiver. Get a pair of vise grips, channel locks or a pipe wrench and very carefully unscrew it. The reason I say to use the tools is because it will not be hard to unscrew. You won't need to use a lot of pressure, therefore, you won't hurt the finish.--------------------Sixgun

The one I had was hard to remove at first... before you use heat, try opening the action and using the fore end piece as a wrench, the way it's meant to be done. The fore end has a hole to fit over the lug that locks the fore end on the barrel. Remove the fore end piece, shift it forward until it fits over the lug, then grip the barrel and fore end together and turn.
Once the threads are cleaned up, it will be easy to get on and off.

I want to take it down 'cause its a takedown, its part of the "cool" factor.Mainehunter wrote: I have a couple of Savage take downs but never had any problems. Question I have why do you want to break it down? To clean it better? I very seldom take mine down.
