Next Levergun In Sight // ADDED PICS
Gun sales in Utah are always fairly heavy. One of the best helps has been a local TV station's "free" classifieds. I found and ended up purchasing several from that souce this past year. HOWEVER, shortly after SANDY HOOK the management decided to ban firearms ads (which had averaged about 1500 handguns and 1000 longguns).
NOW - within 24 hours a couple new sources for posting firearms classifieds (utahguns.com and utahgunexchange.com). I decided to post a "wanted to buy" ad for a Browning BL-22 on both sites yesterday afternoon. Within five hours I got a phone call with an offer and also a text with another offer.
SO - tomorrow I'm going to pick up one of those offerings - that will give me three leverguns: a 30-30, a 308 and now a 22 cal. That ought to be enough - or is there a lever action shotgun I ought to have??

Shotguns I cant help with, but you need a 45/70 and/or 357mag levers.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Oh man, you NEED an 1887 shotgun like in Ji's post! I think the ones Coyote Cap brings in from China actually work well and last. Have to be pretty good to stand up to CAS shooting. The Winchesters I see in gun shows are mostly 10 ga. so are generally passed up by the CAS crowd. All you need to do is set up to load 10s. Preferably brass shells just 'cause I like 'em.

An hour ago I had another phone call offering three more BL-22s. A grade one, a grade two and special one with an 2 inch longer octogon barrel. With the shortie I bought this afternoon that would make four BL-22s. I'm THINKIN'Hobie wrote:It is awfully optimistic or naive for you to think that 3 is enough...

Now that is what you might call a well used 30-30.

I started with one. I now have 35 and counting. `If it's any consolation, there's three of us in our house! Ok, I have a few duplicates... but nary a regret! But, I may have mis-counted. Do BB-guns count?

Re: Next Levergun In Sight // ADDED PICS
THREE
My name is George and I am addicted to leverguns. I was satisfied for years with an old 1886 Winchester in 40-82 that my dad had. There was no ammo for it while I was growing up, so I was satisfied with working that action and fondling that heavy old gun. What I didn't realize was that by working that old lever action, the feel and sound of that action imprinted into my brain and released endorphins which affected my thinking without me realizing it.
My first rifle was a bolt gun in 30-06. Later, I bought a BLR in 308 because my brain kept telling me that leverguns were cool. I used it through the bulk of my hunting years, and I still thought I was satisfied with two leverguns. The years passed, and I got this itch to reload and shoot the old 86. I had no information to go on, so I got online and found this web site. That was my undoing.
For the first time I was exposed to a bunch of addicts that really knew a lot about lever guns. I heard stories about and saw pictures of HERDS of leverguns.
I had never thought about owning a herd of leverguns before, but on this site, it all seemed so normal.
After getting the 86 up and running, I found out that I didn't have an itch, I had a rash that demanded to be scratched.
I wanted a HERD! All because I got mixed up with this crowd of addicts that were so very eager to welcome the new guy in.
I WANT A HERD!
ALL I HAVE IS A LITTLE BAND!
HOW MANY ARE IN A HERD? (I'm going to have to start a thread and ask the guys on this site how many leverguns are in a herd.)
Need more, need more, need more......
Whew! I feel so much better after getting that off my chest!
Thanks guys! See what you've done?

Burt, stick around here and we will take good care of you too!

Nice battery
.Add a chinese commy ripoff IAC 1887 12 gauge with choke tubes, and rifle sights and a 1886 45-70, I dig the SRC, and you are set for any game that walks, swims, crawls and flys the planet.

"AND" ANOTHER LEVER GUN

This post was from Novemb 2012 - NOW I succumed to adding another one!!
Saturday we were down at "Smith & Edwards" (a place that started out as an military surplus place - now also a large "Ace Hardware," Western Clothing and Boots, Sportsman outlet along with still having the Surplus business) looking over their gun counter (they are one of the largest outlets in northern Utah for guns and ammo).
They had about 25 lever guns displayed (many they picked up from an estate sale), and I spied what looked to be a new Browning BLR amongst the group. Turned out to be one the the new light weight 223's.
I hadn't planned on adding that caliber to my collection, but after "fondling" it for a while I decided I wanted it. I thought it over, and looked at the prices elsewhere and yesterday whent back and bought it.
Now I have two BLR's: the new .223 and the used .308. Here they are together:
