94 Winny basket case

Post by Hayseed »

Ive been collecting parts for an old 94 Winny basket case I swapped for . Upper tang was broken at some time and brazed back together ,buttstock had been cut for child/woman . And so forth , you get the picture , it is by no means a pristine collector . I think it will have character when its together.
One thing I find odd with it is the barrel band location is in front of front site . Barrel is marked .30WCF and Special Smokeless Steel . Bore is really nice .
Rec. is in 400,000 range , early 1900's I believe ...

Still waiting on a few lil parts and she shall be back in the runnin :D

Hagler , thx for the pics ! Thats what had me boggled as the other 94's I have are band behind site and a milled ramp instead of dovetailed barrel. I also had the rear site like the 1925 model pictured .

I had to add a hunk of wood to butt plus comb and belly where it was wacked up. Guess I'll make the butt plate like the 1925 model one . Lot easier than the cresent ones I make for Tenn. rifles !

Pitchy , this one will prolly be a 'Grapes of Wrath' version ! ha ha ha ha!! But it will be a sleeper ! The bore looks like it should shoot real good :D

The early type front sight bases aren't dovetailed, they are silver brazed onto the barrel, with perhaps some being machined from the barrel stock as well. I rather prefer the looks of the early types over the later ones with ramp front sights.

Should be a fun project.

Hayseed,

Take that upper tang and have it re-welded by a good welder with a tig setup. You'll never know it was broken.
