More steam projects fellers

Post by Pitchy »

First is a home build oscillating engine.
The next is a Wilesco D18 which i really like.
The next one is a Jensen 75 unit.

And last is the logging barge with a Jensen 65 powering it.
We plan on building another flat boat today for the 75.
Thanks for your comments. :)

Very Nice. Almost nothing better than more boats. Wish they could scale up easily. Seems like you'd need a real scow just to support a real steam engine. In small boats the machinery seems to take up all the capacity of the boat and the engineer is almost an afterthought.

All water gone under the keel for me. I doubt I'll ever get to sail steam. Glad you're still working on it.

ALL of us could benefit from a wood-fired steam-engine that was capable of turning a small generator.

Anyone make such an outfit for us dummies who can't make our own...???

Wish I could run your videos out of photobucket...but my system does not allow.

Says I need to download "Real Player", tried multiple times, but no luck. Help desk says that is because my OS is not supported...still have XP Professional.

Is that true?

Love that Mike Brown 2 cyl 3 hp engine. That would power a displacement boat no problem.

He says that it requires 20 pounds of wood per hour. How much wood would it take to run it slowely?

I didn't see what pressure or how much steam it requires to produce 3 hp.

Does it have to have a big boiler, or could you run it with a pressure cooker on a camp stove?

So many questions, so little time.

Thanks

Pitchy, I never cease to be amazed by your creativity.
My late father-in-law's father had a complete machine shop on his estate that was run off an overhead shaft by leather belts. Although his was powered by a hit-and-miss Fairbanks Morse, it could easily have run on steam as well. I think if you had walked in the door of that shop you would have been right at home.

Pitchy,

I love those little steam engines. But you gotta put something in the fuel to make them smoke. Steamers sposta smoke.

Thanks gents, we slaved all day in the shop today making a small oscillator engine and boiler to put in a boat. Got it pretty much done and it runs on air but gotta work some bugs out of it.
If it works it will be pretty neat. :)

Scrool to the bottom of this web site and watch the brass boat video.
That`s what we are making.
