Brand new levergunner

Post by Marlin32 »

My youngest daughter just put my second grandson on the ground today! 8 pounds 13 oz, and 21" long, had been thinking about a Marlin 39A or 9422, but at that start, he might jump right into the 45/70

Yes, he is going to be shooting levers and double shotguns (A5's and Double Autos also acceptable)

He is in Austin Texas which makes me sad, but give me an excuse to go to Austin every now and again and maybe sneak down to 86ers for some shooting and hunting?
We shall see how that plays out.

Congratulations...!

Get to work, because EVERY kid needs (not that mine GOT, mind you  ):
  • a 22 LR levergun as their 'first' gun
a centerfire levergun in 357 Magnum as their first 'real' gun maybe around 6th grade
a Ruger 10/22 as their first semiauto gun
an AR-15 as their first 'politically incorrect' gun
a 22 LR handgun of some sort as their first handgun maybe around 9th grade
a 357 revolver to go with that levergun when they graduate high school
Oh, and when they graduate college, get a good job, or complete military training...
  • a 1911 or Ruger Redhawk, and an M1A or 45-70...
These days, even though it makes me angry to forfeit the joy and nostalgia of leverguns and bolt actions, if I only could get one of them, I'd get the AR-15, with a collapsable stock and 22 LR adapter for use during grade-school years...

Actually, I DID get a Ruger 10/22 for each kid as a first birthday present, and so far each has earned a levergun by getting a deer with one I loaned them, and will receive a revolver to go with it upon high school graduation. Maybe an AR-15 for a wedding gift down the road.

Congrats on the baby levergunner.. I started my grandkids out on Crickets.. some pink, some green.. they all outgrow 'em pretty quick.. The older boys all got Mausers that I re'built , one a 243, one a 308, and the last one got a 6.5x55. They are all feeding grandpa venison now.. (fringe benefits).. hope we can get all the crappy politics sorted out so we can continue these family traditions.. Les
This is plagiarized from someone else, but I love it!

I was born a gun owner.
It wasn't a choice.
I didn't become one later in life.
I was born this way.

Congrats!!

Austin isn't so bad except for the Interstate going through it. BUT maybe they've fixed it since I was last through in 1998.

Congratulations!!

I keep hoping that I'll be getting one of those myself one day. A grandchild that is, so far leverguns have been a lot easier to come by. My younger brother has two... grandchildren (and leverguns).
