Skinner Sights: unusual delays?

Post by Treeman72 »

A while back, lots of people were excited about the 94ae Skinner peep sight. I ordered one on Feb. 20th. Is a two week delay usual for such a small operation? Didn't want to harass the guy, just wondering what his usual timeframe is. I read his website, most things ship in 24-48 hours.

Guess I just need to know if it's unusual to have some delays like this, or does anyone happen to know if his shop is doing alright? Any peace of mind is greatly appreciated.

He was probably just out of them. He wont make you wait too long.
Be patient. The (old ) master used to make them up to order and did not keep any in stock.
That was back in the before time. When he was just making stuff for friends. He soon gained many new friends. Kinda like me and holster making.

You're upset about a mere two-week delay for such a product?

I have no experience in purchasing their products, I am just trying to get the opinions of people who have done business with the Skinner brand. Ive known many small-time "Adirondack" wood crafters who take 6 months to make an authentic guide boat out of spruce knees and white pine planks. Point is I know craftsmanship is an art unto itself, that is why I chose not to bother the artist (Skinner) with my trivial worries.

Like any eager newbie, impatience is one of my vices. Two days, two weeks, two months, two years? Just trying to figure out when I get to enjoy the quality of a Skinner peep sight. You seem to hold Skinner in high regard, Hobie. I hope to share that feeling soon when I go plinking with the sight.

 The Skinner sights might be said to have gotten their start here (at least partially). Made one at a time to order. Now that probably isn't the case. No, I'm not especially fond of nor especially opposed to the Skinner sight. It has its place. I like the .22 dovetail version, now that is a product that was needed. However, in the current circumstance it seems everything gun related takes weeks (and perhaps months) to become available. I read your post as semi-concerned you'd been ripped off since you didn't already have your sight. That wouldn't be very reasonable but I wasn't entirely certain of your intended meaning hence the question.
Sincerely,

Hobie

It has been a few years since I bought my Skinner sight and I recall it took a couple of weeks to arrive. I do recall the experience being a pleasant one and being treated first rate. I didn't like the size screw in peep that came with it and he sent me a different one. He also recommended the correct front sight to use.

He was a stand up guy with me. I don't think you have any reason to be concerned about your order.

Kelye is the best. I don't think you have to worry about a thing.

Great thing about waiting is you are pleasantly surprised when the day finally comes.

The Winchester dovetail is pretty miserable, so really looking forward to this. Might even do a 9422m if it works out nicely.

My $0.02: Many folks, these days, are TOO accustomed to fast food. ;) .

Andy @ Skinner is good people - Prolly just snowed under with orders, a sign of the current mania/times.

I ordered a Henry Rimfire Sight January 26th and haven't received it yet. I know Andy is very busy and will get it out as soon as he can.

I've ordered many sights from Andy and have never been disappointed with the service. Some orders came quicker than others, but never a concern on my part that I would get them in a timely fashion. Good folks at Skinner.

I await my due Skinner process. Knowing it takes time but will happen puts me at ease. I feel like I won the lottery too. 100 rounds of Federal fusion 30-30 and 100 rounds of Remington 223 premier Matchking in the mail of central NY. It is a good day.
