One of the Last "Band of Brothers" passes

J. B. Stokes
September 2, 1922 - February 24, 2013


J.B. Stokes, 90, a member of the "Band of Brothers," E Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013.

Service: 10 a.m. Thursday at White's Azle Chapel.

Interment: Jaybird Cemetery.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at White's Azle Funeral Home.

J.B. was born Sept. 2, 1922, in Lenard, to Ida Mae and George Stokes. He married Ola Mae Trotter on Dec. 15, 1945. The couple began this life together in Bridgeport. J.B. began his lifetime career in the Water Department. Through the years they were blessed with four children. As years passed J.B. became director of Public Works for Azle.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ola Mae Stokes; his parents; three brothers; and one sister.

The family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Morrison, Sandy Herring and Staff for their love and support.

Those left to cherish his memory are sons, Gary Stokes and wife, Jani, and Jerry Stokes and wife, Ann; daughters, Sue Hobbs, Diane Obel and husband, Lee; seven grandchildren and spouses; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Flora Capehart and Ray Nell Bolin.

Thanks Brokenhand. However, the Memorials section is for forum members who have crossed the great divide. One reason for that is we want fellow forumites to know what happened to members who have "gone missing". Thanks.

I remember a few years ago I met one. He was giving autographs and pics out at a gunshow in Allentown, Pa.. Italian guy with one leg. I guess he died too.-------6

Sounds like you met Bill(Wild Bill) Guarnere. He lives in South Philly near his buddy Babe Heffron. My wife has family in the neighborhood who know them. I'm a big WW2 buff so i was thrilled when visiting I got to spend some time with Mr. Heffron. He even signed my book that he and Wild Bill wrote. These guys are incredible. And very humble.

Was Stokes's name used for a character in the series? His name doesn't ring a bell in that regard, but God bless him anyway. jd45
