Rossi Rio Grande
Few weeks ago I got a new R92 in 357 mag. Like it but it has the usual rough as sand paper action, guess I need to get the action job dvd. But my question is I'm looking for a big bore lever action in 45/70, 444, or maybe even 454 is the Rossi Rio Grande worth buying or should I go with a marlin and is the Rossi 454 action able to take the psi created by the 454 cartridge? Any knowledgeable info is appreciated!

Re: Rossi Rio Grande
The Rossi in 454 is a Model 92 and everyone that I've talked to that has one, swears by it. Although most say that with full 454 loads, it is a little light in weight and has the recoil to prove it.

Re: Rossi Rio Grande
How does the 454 stack up against the 444 Marlin?
Re: Rossi Rio Grande
The first one's a hot pistol round.......the second is a heavy rifle round.
.454 can do a lot. .444 rivals the .45-70 in the fact it'll kill anything on the North American continent without serious trouble if you do your part.

Re: Rossi Rio Grande
If you're looking for an affordable, reliable 45/70 then the Rossi Rio Grande is worth the look. Ranch Dog created a forum for fans of Rossi products and in particular the Rio Grande, and the 92 clone. HE has shot his 45/70 Rio Grande extensively and has allot of information on his forum, take a look: http://www.rossi-rifleman.com/viewforum.php?f=11
If I ever buy a 45/70 levergun it will most likely be a Stainless Steel Rio Grande which is better suited for our wet, humid conditions here in the islands.

I've got a Rossi Rio Grande in 410, and used to have a Rossi 92 in Ruger 480. Both are lightweight, and very tough!
As for looks... the Rio Grande 410 was made more recently than the R92 in Ruger 480... the older 92 furniture required refinishing... the newer Rio Grande looks fine as it came from the factory.
