OK throw your eggs
I traded a 94 win. 30-30 made in 78 for a once fired Glock 23 (40 s&w) gen 4
A bud of mine just bought it a few days befor, so he showed it to a guy & let him handle it, telling him it was loaded
& long story short it went off, hitting the handler in the thigh & going down & doing a exit
above the ankle, nope it didnt break any bone Or any major damage, it could have been fatal
So my bud not wanting anything to do with the Glock any more, wanted to know if I was intreted in it
I said Ive got a 94 Id trade, he jumped all over it & were both happy over our deal
His cost on the glock was 613,00 with tax plus 25 bucks for ammo
The guy with the hole in his leg is doing good,

I think you need a Lone Wolf 9mm barrel and a 22 Conversion unit to go with it. Aint even gonna comment on the other topic.

30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Good trade, Ollogger. Congrats!
Please indulge me because I am going to point out and talk about one of the phrases you used in your post. You said, "it (the Glock) went off..." Everyone here knows exactly what you meant: The handler pulled the trigger and shot himself! We're probably all going to repeat this story at some point in time and likely more than once. In today's world where there is so much anti gun sentiment, I encourage everyone to be care about how you phrase things. To many people "It went off" sounds like the Glock...the gun...wounded the handler on its own. May I just remind you that we all have pointed out innumerable times to non-gun and anti-gun people that "guns don't wound and kill people, people wound and kill people!" The Glock didn't just "go off!" It was fired by the handler who is solely responsible for the accident. The handler pulled the trigger and wounded himself!
Words and phrases are important in what message they convey to others. Our world has changed. Just my 2 cents....
No criticism is directed at all toward you, Ollogger. Your are talking among friends here who know exactly what you mean. That handler pulled the d a m trigger and shot himself!

ollogger,
If you're happy with the trade, we're happy too. I wouldn't have made that trade, but that's just me.
As for the other matter, mod71alaska said it better than I could.

Re: OK throw your eggs
I think it wasnt a bad trade.
Pretty shocking when someone pulls the trigger on a loaded gun and it fires.
The owner wasnt too smart to hand it over loaded either. It was a failure of common sense in both those regards. He assumed (incorrectly) that the guy wouldnt do something that obviously dumb. I've handed a rifle to someone a couple times, saying "the magazine's loaded, the chamber's empty", then had them cycle the action and act surprised that it had a round ready to chamber and not know what to do next. At this point, I'd just rather just not hand anyone a gun without it being empty.

Re: OK throw your eggs
I'm guilty of a ND many years ago. The victim however was a suitcase. Muzzle awareness when pulling the trigger whether its loaded or unloaded. I really don't understand people accidentally shooting themselves or someone else. There's a cop here in Colorado who walks with a limp. He has shot himself in the foot TWICE! He is still a cop.

No eggs here. As long as you get along with the ergonomics (which I do), Glocks are a GREAT handgun.

I'm not a fan of Glocks, I've said that before, but of the 3 or 4 I've fired everyone has functioned flawlessly with the bullets going where I aimed.
In other words, nothing to see .... move along.

Parden me for putting it this way, but when it comes to Glocks, KEEP YER BOOGER PICK OFF THE BANG SWITCH til yer ready to shoot something!!! That being said, I got 3 of them buggers (not one is a Gen4) and I like them all.
OOps, didn't see Joe's post, I guess this is another way of saying what he said.

No, I was speaking in generalities. I'd be afraid to touch the trigger of a 10mm glock anyway, they are like small nuclear devices when fired, they are so powerful.

I wasn't much of a fan, but bought a 19 for my ex several years ago. I shot it a fair bit, and was quite surprised at how well it shot, as well as the others I've shot have. After getting the hang of the spongy trigger, and the sight hold figured out, it wasn't that tough to hit the 18" plate at 300 yards. A dealer friend had several once when we went shooting, we were able to hit that same plate with every glock he had that day, including the small ones. It may not appeal at first, but give it a little time, and it may grow on you. Pretty good utility guns, and hard to hurt them.ollogger wrote:....so whats the good & bad on the glock? im a newbie to them

Re: OK throw your eggs
Glocks are by far the most reliable and durable auto pistol IMO. However I have seen 40's KB. The .40 is Glocks one black eye, they have an unsupported chamber. I do not know if this was remedied with the Gen 4. I don't believe it happens with factory ammo.

Re: OK throw your eggs
I think the unsupported chamber/KB thing was sorted out in the gen 3. I believe it was the earlier guns that had the troubles.
There have been a few breech face cracks come up, a cone of metal cracking out around the firing pin hole, apparently from dry firing, in several different calibers. It's pretty rare, but has happened. Several Law Enforcement agencies have gotten whole lot orders of glocks that simply didnt work right and were unable to get them corrected. Glock kept saying it was the flashlights, (even when none were on them), the ammo, (even when various types was used) and ended up replacing the entire lots. Last I heard, the departments never did get an answer why it happened. One writer remarked that the glock rep kept blaming various things, and when he came to show the aparently uninformed locals how to run their guns, he had the same problems. The writer commented that the look on the reps face was "priceless" when they failed on him as well, after his blaming various things as the cause. There was some info online about it, officers from several agencies discussing it. I believe an LE forum or blog. It was sevral years ago ('05-'06?) and I havent heard of similar things since. Just mentioned it for the sake of discussion.
Glocks are very good, most run extremely well, but they are not perfect. They are made by humans after all.

Brad,
I ain't throwin' eggs at 'ya, I'm gonna pitch a watermelon at 'ya. You know how I feel about Winchesters, even the rattle-junk ones from the seventies. That 94 will be around loooooooong after that 10 cent plastic junk finds it's way into the garbage pit. (I hear if you leave them on the dashboard in the summertime, they will melt into the defroster slots)
OK, the above statement was meant to push the blood pressure up on Glock fans. They are great guns. I've never owned one, but I have shot most of 'em, including the full auto 18 and have yet to have one hiccup on me. Being old school, I personally just don't like 'em.
But my opinion don't mean nothing as to the original meaning of this post. I think you made a good move, both financially and physical as you made bucks on the trade and also filled a niche on a style of gun that you did not have. Either gun is easily replaceable and while not much, both are money in the bank, so is what you did was trade oranges for oranges...........its just one of the oranges is bigger than the other........and you won.
Now...............here's the real problem................Boots...........You really think she is gonna let that plastic thing-a-ma-jig share the same domain around all her single actions?

Re: OK throw your eggs
I have the .40's slightly larger brother, the 10mil, --- so far so good -- its not the first gun i reach for to throw in my range bag, but it hits what i'm aiming at everytime. It has occasionally shocked me with how accurate it is
Plus i never sit back in an overstuffed chair in front of a roaring fire with the Glock, admiring its classic looks, like i'm apt to do with a Python , or a SAA ---- but it, and its 15 cartridges, are always close at hand as i consider it my "bump in the night" gun
I don't keep it chambered -- i have practiced my slide rack technique extensively . as i raise the firearm into the ready position, i grasp the slide and push the gun forward as the sights come on line ---- admittedly simply snicking the safety off on a 1911 is faster, but this is the only way i feel comfortable with the Glock

Thanks for the help on the Glock, I did run a mag full thru it & was happy with that
