I am told Cuddeback is the best. Use the infrared capable and there are those that can go wireless. A wireless computer camera might work, too. I would think that camouflage will be critical or they will steal the camera...

If you have an appropriate structure on or near the approach to your property, natural or manbuilt, I would strongly suggest making a recess for the aimed camera, so that only the lens can peek out - since many folks today are familiar with the trail cam's shape, camo'd or not, and they'll grow legs.

That's what I meant by camouflaged. I.e., it must be hidden.

I'm not endorsing this one over any other. I have a similar need to yours.

this site has a good discussion about using trailcams for security, along with a particular review:

Trail Cam Pro sells cameras so are probably a little biased. Chasingame.com sells software and security boxes, no cameras that I'm aware of so may be a little more neutral. That have a good forum section as well.

There are a lot of good cameras out there. Even in the same brand however, not all models are created equal. I've had good luck with Moultrie and Scoutguard.

Neighboring farmer aimed stealth cam at my gate. None of his business who comes & goes -- he's just nosey.

Me and dog usually make the bi-weekly 262 mile trip from home without stopping; I unlock the gate & we both immediately relieve ourselves in the thick trees & brush.

Neighbor got some nice pics of us midstream.

A wireless web cam to a hard disc (off site) dont post that you have cameras or they will wear masks. thats the legal way, I have tried other methods and they work but somebody loses some skin and vehicles. danny

My truthcam IR has a bank of red lights that are easily seen at night when they flash. I believe there are some IR cameras that use an IR that is NOT visible to the human eye. Those would be better suited for security in my opinion.

yup, they're called "no-glow" cameras. it's the first filter I use in searches because stealth is my friend when he's on my side.

I was reading the specs on one camera and it said the IR flash was good for 45 feet.
It was unclear or non definitive if that flash was visible to species homo sapien or not,
so now I am really confused. :?

:? :? I'm confused because I thought IR use heat instead of light, so to speak :? Why need a flash? :? :?:

Some IR is visible, some is not.

Here is a cam for sale and in the specs it stipulates that it is a no-glow IR camera that can't be seen going off.

The other thing to watch for is noise level. Some trail cameras make a loud enough noise to alert a human, that's not great for a security camera.

I recommend SpyPoint model BF 7 ; Its a black flash invisible infrared;
