Well....... I dunno - IMO, that bear skin seller sounds like an asshat, and should most likely find something else to do besides wheel/deal, say, something more suitable, like cleaning latrines, etc.

Wouldn't it be poetic justice, if/when the buyer returned for the bearskin, he refused to pay for it, because the seller had ruined it ?

Seller is a jerk, and I'm sure you're in a long line of people to have reminded him of it.

Don't let other people control your feelings. As a friend of mine said, "I don't get mad if I have to waste time getting over it."

It's a big green beautiful field out there. Sometimes you'll find a pile of horses**t. Kick it over, look to the flower and trees, move on.

Would you have been upset if he had the fur and claws for sale separately on the table already? Were you upset that he didn't have the rest of the bear still attached? Did you ask where the head was? It's interesting to me that you weren't upset that bear was dead, that its skin was removed for display and that the skin was being sold, but somehow you decided to draw the line at removing the feet.

I think you're silly, and i think that what the man did with his bear skin was none of your business. I bet you wouldn't cry if someone cut the sleeves off a leather jacket.

It wasn't your property he was ruining.

It was never gonna be yours.

It doesn't have an affect on your life one way or the other.

Maybe you should try and figure out why you got upset over something that sounds like it was none of your business in the first place.

Yea, the bear that had been shot, skinned, and presumably eaten.

Yeah, the seller is a small minded cheap azz jerk.

But its a free country, or at least kinda free, and he has every right to be those things without affecting you at all. Whether jerks annoy you is your problem, not theirs.

To be honest, I kinda think you're out of line getting into it with him. He made a deal that apparently both parties were ok with, how does this affect you at all? Not trying to be insulting here, you did ask if it was you or old age or what.

If I would have given the guy his $80 for with the claws intact, I might have pointed that out to him, but no more than that. When it comes right down to it, the skin is his property, at least until he gets his $60 for it.

Mossy, as I putter around the shop I can't help thinking that something(s) else has you wound up and for whatever reason what the guy was doing to the bearskin triggered your fuse, but really had nothing to do with why you were upset. I can sympathize with that. Take a deep breath and think about it a minute and don't take any comments here personally...or we'll cut your feet off.

I not taking anything here personally....It's all good.....I made the post to get others points of view, and I want to make one point there was no screaming match at the show the whole conversation on lasted about 45 seconds, the seller and I were very quiet when we were talking,I was making my thoughts clear to him and he was doing the same to me. I guess what anode me was how he went about cutting the paws off and while he was doing it he made the statement about "he ain't gittin them for 20 bucks less.

I don't know where in the country you were, but sure seems like a waste. A taxidermist wants $200 to $300 a foot to make a bear rug out of a hide.

I probably would have been disgusted too. Hopefully I wouldn't have opened my big mouth and got in a blood pressure raising argument. (again)

I think here in Fla it's a violation to sell animal trophys in the first place.

Since black bear are on our endangered/protected list here anyway I'd steering way clear of it anyway.

I would like to have a rug though,

Where do you live? I'm Indian; I go to church each week but my band still reveres the bear people. No one I know would defile bear remains by wearing the claws or hide.

That's as opprobrious as was making tobacco & lead ball pouches out of our sisters' mammaries.

OP, thank you. You will be rewarded in time.

'Bout that time of the year again...just to the right of the middle of winter.
Likely it is just the wind & cold & lack of daylight and sunshine and cabin fever and needing to get outside and shoot a levergun

Seems like the buyer was as cheap as the seller. I'd want the paws and claws and would pay the extra 20. But maybe the buyer wanted the hide for something else and didnt need the paws?

When the hospital called us when my father died they had not closed his eyes when I got there. I got up over him and looked in his eyes. What was quite clear to me was that he was not there - where I had always seen him.
