Williams FP-94/36 Peep Sights for Win 94
I saw on another post about the Williams FP-94/36 peep sights do not need drilling and tapping for the Winchester 94. Is this true? Mine was made in '75 and it does have two small screws on the left side of the receiver. I've never really looked at peep sights because I thought they all required drilling and tapping. Midway site says some models need drilled and tapped, just not sure if my gun is one of them. They list a lot of guns for this model. Brownell's mentions drilling and tapping on newer models. Any help with this would be appreciated.

That's correct - though I suspect it was my post you're referring to. You'll notice my 94 is a Buffalo Bill Commemorative made in 1968 and it didn't need drilling or tapping. Dunno how long Winchester had been doing that but, it was for a very long time and, if you just remove those two screws and replace them with the mounting screws of the Williams FP 94/36, you'll be in business - depending on the height of the front sight. Replacing that isn't a big deal either - all it takes is a brass or nylon tipped drift punch to remove the old one and drive in the new one.

OTOH, if you're not comfortable doing it, any reasonable gunsmith wouold do it for minimal charge.

Marlin ( I'm not sure about Winchester) recently stopped D/T-ing the left side of their lever action receivers for peeps, both as a cost-cutting masure, and due to a perception that most buyers mounted a scope anyway.
The Williams Gunsight Co responded by making a second version of their peep for the Winchester 94 & Marlin 336, that utilizes the scope mount base holes atop the receiver(M336) or receiver rails(M94).
Just be sure to get an old standard FP or 5D peep, and not the new model.

Hey OJ. It was your post on another board I spotted that on. I just didn't want to horn in on that guy's post. Plus, I figure I'd get a "better" response on this board. Great! Bullets are supposed to be in tomorrow and if the light 30-30 loads work out without me blowing myself up, I'll order a set. Thanks.
You're welcome - glad to be able to share experiences that might be helpful and this is a terrific forum particularly for lever guns. I feel sure you'll be happy with the Williams FP 94/36. Here's a pic of a similar sight on my Winchester 95 (which did require drilling and tapping) showing the left side and I remove the aperture and use the sights as ghost ring sights - just as accurate and faster on target. I just now got back from the range and, with the 95, shot the numbers out of the targets at 100 yards (not intended as bragging - it's just easy with those sights).
