Favorite 32-20 loads for a Browning Model 53???

Post by AlanF »

Well I should have my hands on my very own lightly used Browning Model 53 in a week or so. Can you please share your favorite 32-20 loads.

I will need moulds and dies so if you have a favorite in these please share.

Do any of you use an after-market sight on your Model 53?

Thanks,
Alan

My Browning 53, Cimarron '73, and Winchester '92 all like the 115 grain Lyman 311008 cast lead bullet sized .312" with either 10 grains of IMR 4227 or 14 grains of Reloader 7. Unique is nearly as good using 4.5 to 5.0 grains. I usually use small pistol primers but small rifle seem just as good.

Wonder if anyone is using Green Dot with a 115gr cast bullet? Would be interested in hearing how it does.

I tried it when I first got the gun (Marlin 1894CL), didn't do any good at all. I shot the 4227 for a year or so before stumbling upon the Lil Gun load, never went any further. :D

I use 9.5gr 2400 behind a 115gr hard cast bullet. If you want something with a little less grunt try 4.5gr Trailboss

I'm looking forward to getting a couple new molds for my Marlin in the next month or two. If you're in the market for a new mold check this one out

jnyork, what type of velocity are you getting with Lil'Gun load? Are you using a plain base or gas check bullet? Thanks.

Look at NOE (Night owl enterprises) for a mould. See if he has any left in stock, a clone of the 311008/314008. Great moulds.

It's a plain base bullet, I buy it 1000 rounds at a time from Oregon Trail Bullets, life is too short to be screwing around casting. IIRC I get around 1200 fps. I am not so much into getting the maximum velocity as I am maximum accuracy, as long as the load knocks down the rams I'm happy.

7 or 8 gr. 2400 and Lymans 311008 115gr. bullet sized to .312 are just super accurate in my 53.

I've got Lil'Gun so I will try that and think I will work on finding some 2400 and maybe give the Green Dot and RL 7 a go as well.

9.5gr 2400 under a Sierra 90gr JHP
