Marlin 94 date of manufacture?

Post by Tumbleweeds »

SN 21148***

Straight grip, no safety, so it's not new. Chambered in .44 mag, so not an antique either.

Anybody have a lookup book?

Tumbleweeds,

I think yours falls into the serial number system where you have to subtract the first two digits from 100 and the result is the year of manufacture.
100-21=79, so if I'm right that would be 1979 which sounds correct for a 44 mag with no CB safety.

I don't have a look up chart though.

Is the serial number 21,148,XXX or 2,114,8XX?
The former is outside the range stored in the database (high).
The latter is mfg year 1955.

BTW there were no .44 mags in 1955, except on the drawing board.
