Swapped for a 1895 Marlin .45-70
Boy, it's heavy. Won't have an opportunity to shoot it until snow melts & I can get upstate to my deercamp.
Can't wait.

you'll like it...kind-of a big stick for Whitetail's, but never the less allot of fun (i say that because i had one for Mule Deer and Elk)--hunted with mine for three years until a friend i hunt with made me an offer i couldn't refuse. Cast bullets are the way to go in my humble transplanted lousy back-east opinion--old-school is always fun in a levergun---GOOD CHOICE... :)
P.S.-- the weight should not be an issue, especially when you
touch off a round to take a 150 yd. shot of a life-time...

45-70 has all the good stuff, and none of the bad stuff. Brutal, yet classic.

Some years back I swapped a AE Win 94 Trapper in 44 mag for an 1895 SS in 45-70. I have no regrets, but do miss the trapper sometimes.

Great rifle - IMO the best 45-70 ever. Very close to an earlier design.

What configuration Marlin did you get? I have 3 including a cowboy and none of them are heavy guns in my book.

I've had 2 of the 95 Marlins in 45-70. Put old Redfield receiver sights and Sourdough fronts on them along with sling swivel bases. Great hunting tools but my friends always manage to talk me out of them.
BIL has the Guide Gun version and I don't think he hunts with any thing else.
Is you's the Cowboy? You'll enjoy the extra weight when you get to shooting it. Even factory loads have a lot of recoil.

Don't seem like anyone has a bad thing to say about that big ol 45-70. I don't shoot mine much but I sure do like it!
