Marlin lever action

Post by dbord130 »

Bought a new to me 1894 marlin in 44 magnum today. the rifle looks like someone put it away and never used it. There was some very lite surface rust on both sides of the receiver that rubbed off with an oily rag. It has the micro groove barrel and the Marlin safety. The barrel is marked THE MARLIN FIREARMS Co. NORTH HAVEN, CT,U.S.A. SN: 1009XXXX. I got the rifle for $450.00 out the door. Would like to know if I got a good deal and approximately the year it was manufactured. Sorry but I don't know how to post pictures.

The SN indicates a 1990 manufacture date. Personally, I would not pay over maybe $375 for a nice one(and I could probably stir one up for 350, if I worked at it) , but $450 is certainly in the price range I see nice used ones marked at in stores.

I'd feel good about that price for that rifle as described.
Of course, pictures and a range report will be necessary! :D
Have you hugged your rifle today?

Here in the Northeast and as desribed $450 OTD would be a good price....especially for a North Haven manufactured rifle.

Seems reasonable enough to me. Have not seen a real Marlin in 44. around here for under $400 in quite awhile.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!
