Made my first fancy video

Post by KirkD »

Back in September my wife and oldest daughter and I headed out into the backyard. We'd never done anything like this before and I'm sure if a real videographer had been watching us, his face would be in his palm a lot. My wife did the sound, and my oldest daughter stars in the video; I'll take the blame for everything else including out of focus shots, sketchy editing, and so on. We made a lot of mistakes, but it was fun. Part way through, you can see my daughter firing my original Colt SAA. I would like to make more of these over the next several years. Here’s the link … http://vimeo.com/55466450

Thanks, fellows. I think we all tend to see the flaws in our own handiwork a lot more than in what other people do, so I am very conscious of all my mistakes. Nevertheless, it turned out better than I thought (with a lot of takes and heavy cutting). I learned a lot and I'm looking forward to doing more.

I wonder if it a QuickTime plug in that you need? Another idea is to see if there is an update for your browser that is available. If that doesn't work, I'll still let you know about the YouTube URL when it comes available.

Nice job Kirk. I made a video in 1986 in honor of the Texas sesquicentennial. My dad was raised in Comanche County, Texas. I had my dad go back to where he was born and take us to all the houses and a ranch he lived on and the business his dad ran, a drygoods and grocery store. I had just gotten the use of a video camera that we used for our football games. I put music to it and had to edit it all with the camera. It last about 50 minutes. I got some great footage of my dad talking about going to school on a wagon and being baptized in the Leon River. He told about a ghost that was seen by his aunt walking through his small living room. We went out to the bunkhouse where he told me about the fights him and his four brothers and two step brothers got into. He also talked about learning to swim in a large cistern and climbing up the windmill to turn the chickens loose to watch them fly. My sister and wife and kids went along to help keep dad talking while I videoed. As crude as the first video cameras were it turned out pretty good. He died in 1989 of Leukemia so it is priceless. I encourage you to do the same if possible, if not make one of you and your wife. Your daughter will cherish it one day. Take care, RR7

Rangerider7, that video you made would have been a lot of work, editing it in the camera like you did. Making that kind of video that you made can be very valuable for family history.

Olinaz: The telescope is a Brandon apochromatic refractor made by Vernonscope in the USA. They are more well known for their high quality Brandon eyepieces, but they made apochromatic refractors for a few years back in the 80's. The mount is made in Germany by aus Jena. Back then, my grandmother decided to give each of her grandchildren a gift of money, so I used my allotment to order one of these units. I've been very pleased with it.

Bearhands: The music is 'Castle in the Sky'. I don't know who the artist is, I purchased a license from KillerTracks.com to use the song in this video, and they didn't give a name for the orchestra.

Very nice Kirk, you must be very proud of your daughter. I like that she was not firing a blank, what a gal!
The THEORY of evolution is just that a theory with so many holes in it as well as so many sects or differences in beliefs that it takes a misguided faith to believe it. If anyone here has not seen this documentary "Expelled- No Intelligence Allowed" written, produced, and starring Ben Stein I highly recommend you do. Through simple logic he even makes the most rabid atheist evolutionist admit that yes there had to be intelligence for live to start. He also interviews top scientific minds who believe in intelligent design even though these men are not religious but reaching their conclusions just by pure scientific deduction based on evidence. Rent it or buy it if you can extremely interesting but also very entertaining, even funny at places.

That looked so professional that I backed out of it thinking I had the wrong video, but after reading the other posts, I looked at it again and watched the whole thing. She is right on.
