.30-30 AI, FTX bullets, monflex, leverevolution powder info?
A friend had his 336 reamed to .30-30 Ackley Improved. He's going to start tinkering around with Hornady's Leverevolution powder, 160gr FTX bullets, and 140gr Monoflex bullets. Has anyone here cooked up any recipes with these ingrediants for the Ackley? If he gets a load worked up in time he's looking to take it on a feral hog hunt after Christmas. Thanks.

I tried the leverevolution powder in my 30-30 Ackley. Was very disappointed with the velocity and accuracy. Someday when time permits I would like to try the gumy bullets with it.

My results with LeveRevolution powder in the 30-30AI and the 307 Winchester agree with yours. I have experienced some high extreme spreads and visual indications of high pressure. I am a little uncomfortable working with the powder. The reviews indicate it best used in specific applications. Hornady has load data for the 307 Winchester but I did not have good results. For my use Alliant Reloder 15 and Hodgdon Varget are best performers. I have some good initial indications using IMR 8208 and 4007 - two rather different powders. I like 4007 in the 307 and the 308.TedH wrote:I tried the leverevolution powder in my 30-30 Ackley. Was very disappointed with the velocity and accuracy. Don't have an AI, but I use LVR in my 30-30 xlr w/190gr boolits and it works wonders. Very good velocity and accuracy. Also been using it with my 356win. with good results too.

When working with LVR powder I have had wide spreads in velocity and mediocre accuracy until I hit the point where the powder was a little compressed and I also put on a real firm crimp (I've used the Lee FC die for the crimps). I don't have enough experience with the powder to say that is a rule for accuracy, but that has been my very limited experience.
But I wouldn't give up on the LVR powder without first trying a good firm crimp on some loads. This coming from a fellow who generally tries to get away with very little if any crimp. So I went to those firm crimps on the LVR loads only as a last resort sort of thing. At that point I got tight velocity spreads, good accuracy, and velocities well above anything else in 30/30 and 30 Rem.
I'd be interested in what your friend finds with his AE and the 140 grain bullet, ving-thorr. I would think he might do OK with such a light-for-caliber bullet in the AE (here I am assuming you need to get the LVR to a level where it is a little compressed, which I don't know to be true generally but was true for my few loads).

For me LVR seems to perform best at 100% load density. Below that it didn't really perform any better than any other powder. Like Earl I find a crimp helps with velocity spreads.

Gentlemen,
Anyone have an update with using the 140gr FTX bullet in the 30/30 AI? Or even the 30/30?
