336 Texan?
I've seen one @ my LGS.... the barrel is only marked 336 in the usual spot.... the lever is "square" (rectangular) with a straight stock.
Does the lever and stock make it a Texan or does it have to be marked "T" or some other letter? It's got low weaver rings and some kind of Simmons scope. Should I pull the trigger on a $350 price tag?
Thanks for any input.

Straight stock makes it a Texan. If the serial number is under the lever it's a really good price.......
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.
Re: 336 Texan?
My sons is not marked Texan....a 44 made ca. 1965-7, but marketed as a Texan nonetheless. I am impressed with it's handling and accuracy.

$350 is a good price.

Re: 336 Texan?
I agree, $350 is a good price for straight grip 336.
Re: 336 Texan?
Can't go wrong, even if it was junk there are more than 350 in parts

Does it say 336-44?C. Cash wrote:My sons is not marked Texan....a 44 made ca. 1965-7, but marketed as a Texan nonetheless. I am impressed with it's handling and accuracy.

Re: 336 Texan?
To the best of my knowledge NONE of the 336T's were rollstamped with the word "Texan" and some were marked "336T" and some were not . Also to the best of my knowledge 336T's were only chambered in 30-30 , 35 REM and 44 MAG . I have had a pair of the 44 MAG;s and both are roll stamped with 336-44 . They also have the saddle ring that came on them from 65-67 , the first two years 63 and 64 didn't have the saddle ring .
The Marlin "444T" was called Texan as well but I know for a fact the ones that are rollstamped "444T" are NOT roll stamped Texan as well . I also know unless your "444T" is roll stamped "444T" it is not a "444T" . And they only roll stamped them with that in 1971 and 1972 .

Re: 336 Texan?
Since the gun mentioned in the initial post has a squared lever that makes it a 1970 or later rifle . The 63-67 336T's all had rounded levers .

Sorry, I don't know why you guys are so crazy about straight stocks.

Re: 336 Texan?
The squared-lever should make it a 1984-87 336TS (Texan) with crossbolt safety & 18-1/2" bbl.Bearhands wrote:I've seen one @ my LGS.... the barrel is only marked 336 in the usual spot.... the lever is "square" (rectangular) with a straight stock.

Re: 336 Texan?
My 1971 has a squared lever and the brass ring, I think the ring went away in 72(not 100% sure on that) and only says 336.

I guess you might be in a canoe sometime, and the paddle is lost...

i would consider that as a possible use...but would prefer it's original intent... :)El Chivo wrote:I guess you might be in a canoe sometime, and the paddle is lost...336bl wrote:just because...nothing more than that...thanks for asking... :)El Chivo wrote:Sorry, I don't know why you guys are so crazy about straight stocks.
Re: 336 Texan?
Good condition, pre-safety, straight stocked Marlin 336's get a little harder to find every day. For $350 it would be tough to leave it there if it was a good one. Pistol grip guns are a dime a dozen.
Can there be a sexier, more useful gun than a straight grip Marlin 336? I think not.

Re: 336 Texan?
Straight stocked Marlins are the only ones that interest me at all. The little 336T is about as perfect as a Marlin can get. It was well worth the asking price.
