Ah, apples. Don't forget that entry on every senior menu ever printed which states that Apple Sauce is served with every meal.

Only if he shoots it off the limb of a cinnamon tree and "barks" it.

If you video tape your shooting session be sure to edit a disclaimer that clearly states, NO APPLES DIED IN THE FILMING OF THIS SHOOTING EVENT!

Re: Inexpensive, Reactive, Environmentally Friendly Targets
pumpkins are the best !! chunks flying off, and they are long lasting.
the most amazing was a head of cabbage. Cabbage is much more "dense pack" than lettuce. I put a head on the 100 yard line and hit it with a single .22-250 ..... no kidding, it literally vaporized !! There were only a couple of tiny shreds that I could find.
an awesome 49-cent target !!
Cheers,
Carl

EGGS make good targets, too.
We have chickens, and since the guvment says we can't sell them at farmer's markets any more without a guvment-approved 'electric egg cooler', we just give them to friends or shoot them for target practice. Mother Nature recycles them.

cherry tomatoes at 200 yards...
I used to use lollipops, colorful, and just stick in the ground. Only about 2 cents apiece.
How about those little square crackers that are bright orange?
Seriously, a great idea overall.
I used to have neighbors that had crab apples, they dropped all over the place and made a mess. If I were there today I'd offer to take care of it for them.

Re: Inexpensive, Reactive, Environmentally Friendly Targets
Had my ex shooting a Coke can with a .22 and enjoying herself chasing the can around.
Then I handed her my .44 Marlin.
First shot sent it into orbit. Literally blew straight up about 10 feet.
The expression on her face was priceless.

When I had my Casull I used to love shooting CRT screens... most handgun bullets just splash, but the .454 ignored the 1" thick glass entirely...

Did you ever shoot a CRT with your Howdah?
Soft lead ball would probably just go splat but it would be fun anyway.

besides you burn more calories digesting an apple than you gain by consuming it (it's a net calorie loss), so we're doing them a favor.

If eating an apple a day keeps the doctor away, what does shooting an apple a day keep away?
I used to have a board I had drilled holes in for the sucker sticks for Dum Dums suckers. Back when I lived in Lawrence, KS, a friend had some land that he let me shoot on and hunt squirrell on. For practice I put the Dum Dums in the board and took the wrapper off. When hit by a .22lr at about 25 yards, the sucker disintegrates. There is nothing you need to pick up except the wrapper and plastic as all the rest is biodegradeable. You can also do this in your back yard with a .22 rifle and the Aquilla quiet rounds. Kids seem to love it.
