Marlin 336 RC in .32 Special

Post by GregT »

Local dealer got this gun in on consignment. Serial number U26307. I believe this is 1961. Microgroove rifling. The carbine is 95% condition and the bore is like new. Original owner sold it. Anything notable I should know about this? I think I could have a .32/40 just by having it rechambered. Not necessary as I can run any .32/40 load I want just by putting it in a .32 Special casing. I am definitely going to shoot lead slugs in this one,

I don't think that you can rechamber your 32 WS to 32-40. The 32-40 is a tapered cartridge that I think would be too slim for the bottle necked chamber of the 32 WS, unless you cut off part of the chamber, rethreaded and set the barrel back. I have a 336SC in 32 Special and it is a pretty good shooter. You might end up liking it just the way it is.

Good grief, leave it alone and shoot 32 Special through.
Just killed a very nice buck with mine about two days ago.

No, I won't alter it. Just an idea I briefly had....
Thanks!

32-40 is smaller and less powerful.

Leave her alone!.
or send a 30-30 down the road and have that rebored...
Marlin did't make very many in the 32 special as I understand... Most were 30-30 or 35 rem.

one of the guys i used to hunt with in the Catskill Mts. in NYS (late 70's) had an old Marlin in .32 Special--he always got his deer, and i learned early on to respect this rifle cartridge combo...great find..ENJOY... :)
