I drank instant for about 4 decades before deciding that life was just too short to drink lousy coffee.
These days there is a dripolator in the kitchen, a press in my work bag, and a cast alloy percolator in the camping box, but I'd sure trade the alloy one for one of those old style enamel pots if I could find one.

Me and my wife like America's Test Kitchen and she recently found this: Why your home brewed coffee sucks.
More than you probably ever wanted to know about the art of coffee making, but full of great tidbits.

And the whole video Boils down to this:

Heat your water to just below boiling, pour it onto your fresh ground, and pour the coffee into mugs within 8 minutes.

And right there is why I love a French Press.
