We haven`t had any turkeys in my area until the last year or so.
There has been quite a few about a mile away but not until now.
The other day we spotted 20 across the field and this morn there was one behind the garage in the yard.
Went for a look see and the flock was over by the mill as you can just make some out in the first picture. Notice the one spy with his head high.
The second picture we just took, they were holed up in that point .
Kinda a big deal to us.

I have bunches of them around here. Once counted 53 in a flock, mostly poults and about 7 or 8 hens. Behind them was a coyote. As I watched, 2 of those old hens came back and just flogged the dickens out of that coyote. Made it lay down and roll over. When they got done I shot it cause I knew it wasn't gonna give up until it got one of those half grown birds.
When our local warden first released them here they came and jumped over the fence into our chicken pen to feed with the chickens. He and I both used to see them close to the road and we'd jump out of the pickup and holler and shoot to scare them so they'd be leery of cars and people. Musta worked cause they are hard to hunt now.

Nope haven`t seen it, which is fine with me.
MM, my little snoppy dog wouldn`t have much of a chance would he, a flock came into the yard yesterday afternoon and he took after them and chased them out of his yard.

Pitchy, that is cool, I love seeing turkeys! I saw 3 in our woods this past week,up near the pond. We have seen more than 40 in a flock on two occasions since we moved here 9 years ago. Mostly we just see 1-6 at a time. Then we will go for months without seeing any at all. Then, all of a sudden, they are here again for several days.
Just as good as turkeys, maybe better even, I have been seeing bob white quail in our little 4 acre field in front of the house. Saw about a dozen yesterday! Love them little guys! Gotta go now, gonna throw out some corn.

There's been more turkey's around here in recent years. One of my dreams is to get a Wild Turkey for Thanksgiving.

A little trick I use is to go out, after the first half of winter, once a day or so with a cup or two of corn and give it a scattering toss across the front yard. The birds will start getting used to looking there for a bite or two every day. Because it is scattered and not piled no one can guard all the food so even the young ones get a bite or three. This is enough to keep them alive when times are the toughest but they still have to forage. It also makes the corn last. I do this untill the first bugs and sprouts are up in the spring. What it also does is it gets the hens comfortable around my place so they nest around here. Then the young ones are taught to come here. I have hens with their broods here year after year and during turkey season, well where the girls are, the boys are. Sometimes my front yard is the best huting spot on the ridge.

my experience with turkeys is that they are WAY more wary/observant than deer. They will spot ANY movement and disappear FAST. Probably aided by the fact that they are usually in groups, and at least one is looking in about any direction at any time.
