I bought and watched "The Assassination of Jessie James by the Coward Robert Ford". It was very interesting. Not your usual cowboy movie.

What no Brokeback Mountain ?

I’d go with Crossfire trail. Just because I haven’t seen it.

Quigley is always a great choice, but... so is Monte Walsh, (either version). One of my favorites is only available on VHS, Good Ol Boys, directed and starring Tommy Lee Jones. And let us not forget Lonesome Dove.

Another great movie is You Know My Name with Sam Elliot as Marshall Bill Tilghman. One I picked up, just cause of the following line on the box... well maybe the $5 price had something to do with it: "The Only Good Gringo is a Dead Gringo", is Land Raiders with Telly Savalas. :P

Lots of other great choices out there, just dive in and pick one.

Lonesome Dove would get my nod, but I also love Tombstone. Val Kilmer does a great John Henry "Doc" Holliday!

"Lonesome Dove" if you've got the time.

"The Wild Bunch" if you don't.

I would pick Big Jake. Seen Angel and the bad Man the other night, Wane was good but Gail Russell was better, wow.

I like most all the movies listed. Have you ever seen "Hombre" with Paul Newman? I've got a hankering to see it. I don't have it so it'll probably be off to Amazon or somewhere to find it.

I watched Death Hunt today. Savage 99, Marlin 1893, couple of Winchester 1873s, sporterized Krag and SMLE, just an all around good time (for the viewer).
Sincerely,

Hobie

mescalero1, yeah & I also love that bare-breasted senorita in it, too, though they didn't show her long enough. Geoff, you read my mind regarding Sam Elliot's "The Quick & The Dead", not that horsesh*t with Gene Hackman, Sharon Stone, & Russell Crowe. jd45

This is pretty much my favorite. I feel that it's more realistic and not so Hollywoodish.

It's not a western but Death Wish III is on now. I have not seen it for many years but it was interesting that there was a scene where Charles Bronson reloaded for his .475 Wyldey with RCBS equipment. I didn't remember that. Looked like the powder was extruded.

jengel, you must have an LCD TV to be able to discern the shape of the powder granules in that scene,...........tell me, how's it possible? jd45

No LCD tv here. They showed a close up of the scale pan with the powder in it.

Now that I'm getting paid what I'm worth, well, almost, I might get one of them LCDs after the vehicles are paid off.

I watched "Open Range" just today, Costner said in reply to Duvalls remark, about having the big showdown all figured out, right at the end of movie. 'Yeah, all except the part where we don't get killed". Graet flick, no pansy butts in that story.

Both Big Jake and Quigley are classics, through and through. You won't go wrong either way, but watching the latter movie might drive you to put your deposit down at Shiloh and is therefore a bit more dangerous financially. Of course the former will produce a fevered passion to get a classic double barrel if you don't already have one, or several. I spent endless hours watching that movie as a kid while cleaning/oiling my Uncles Remington Mod. 1900 back in the early 80's(almost as nice as a Greener  ), and wanting to be just like John Wayne.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

I watched Crossfire Trail over the weekend, again. It's pretty neat. they did their homework pretty good on the guns. Seleck eventually gets a 76 Winchester Centennial, and puts it to good use, and one of the old men on there, ( I can't remember his name) uses an old Evans leveraction, you don't see those much.

If you havn't seen this show, you got to get it.

All mentioned are terrific. But Hombre with Paul Newman and Richard Boone is on a level by itself. When Newman asks Boone "I got a question, how you gonna get back down that hill?", I watch the movie just to hear that line.

Here's a few I really like that weren't mentioned, and that you may not have seen. These are all available on DVD:

-Dead Man w/Johnny Depp (Neil Young does the musical score)
-Missouri Breaks w/Jack Nicholson and Marlon Brando
-The Tin Star w/Henry Fonda and Anthony Perkins
-Gunslinger's Revenge w/Harvey Keitel and David Bowie
-Valdez is Coming w/Burt Lancaster (one of my favorites!:
"You shoot my men at, what, 600 yds?"
"Closer to one thousand".
"Sharps?"
"My own load".)
-Bad Company w/Jeff Bridges
-Will Penny w/Charleton Heston
-Heaven's Gate w/Kris Kristofferson, Sam Waterston, Jeff Bridges, and Christopher Walken

That'll fix ya.
