Spaniel and an 870,,,,
what a great combo
Expecting light rain I dressed in my usual light cottons and then proceeded to get drenched!
I was intending to try and call a fox in I know of but ditched the idea after getting drenched
I decided to let Tia bolt some rabbits, she pushed five or six giving me three shots for two, one at a good 35yards running away and the other past my feet and I waited untill 25yards away before I shot. I passed on the less sporting shots.
7/8oz of English 4s, 20g.
These two rabbit were dropped off at a family I pass on the way home whome appreiciate them.
I did see a large rat too! Not quick enough!

Thank you for the awesome post Nath. I wish they had wild waskowee wabbits here in the islands to hunt. In fact I'm surprised there aren't any. They seem to have gone feral everywhere else on earth.

Lovely way to spend a morning - hunting with a good spaniel. My buddy's springer nearly had his backside dancing when he'd hold before we let him flush. Don't need a pointer when he draws you a picture.
Nice bag for the morning, congrats ! Hope you two get some grouse once the weather cools !

A Remington 870 in 20 gauge is possably the finest all around hunting iron ever developed.
Good job. Are English and American shot sizes different? For Rabbits here I would lean towards #6s myself.

Re: Spaniel and an 870,,,,
I like seeing your dog run some rabbits. Around here if you get all sorts of bad looks if you let you bird dog do anything but birds. Me? I was out there to hunt and always cared less if my field dogs went after birds, rabbits, coon or squirrel.
Re: Spaniel and an 870,,,,
Tia has been out with me from 10weeks old, most the early time was basic training. She may not win any trials but she knows that when we are out with a gun or bow we are hunting. She knows that pretty much anything is game! All other times like walking with my wife she just fools around, in saying that she will soon hunt again if that nose detects a smell!L_Kilkenny wrote:I like seeing your dog run some rabbits.
