Marlin question

Okay, this is a new one for me --- i rarely ask a question about Marlins although i have a couple of them.

What is the difference in stock length between a standard Marlin 336 carbine, and the youth model ?

butt Pro sent out a sales flyer and has a good price on MArlin's, i was contemplating trying out a youth model due to the 16" barrel , as i like trapper length leverguns , but if i had to put a new buttstock on it just to use it, it wouldnt even be worth digging through a tall pile of new MArlin boxes to find the "best" one
--- i'm not that tall, (5'9 ) -- i guess i could shoulder one and see for myself, huh? Didnt want to drive into the city unless there were possibilities

A brand, new Rem/Marlin? JMPO, I'd look for an older SpikeHorn, and change wood, or have a 336 from the pre-safety days cut down.

I don't know how much shorter the stock is but you could fit it with a recoil pad, at least until you found a replacement stock. Like Blaine, I am not wild about the safety but I have one on my 444P and it hasn't really bothered me.

The youth stock has a LOP of 12.5". The normal LOP is closer to 13.5" It will depend on which fits you better for your type of shooting. In a t-shirt, the youth stock might be too short but might just be the ticker if you shoot in cold weather with a heavy coat. I tend to see a lot more stock crawling in cold weather because the rifle isn't set up for the extra padding of a coat. A short rifle will almost always be faster than one that's too long.

Thats almost too much effort to put into a Marlin for me one off the rack is instant gratification ---

i dont mind sifting through 10 of them to get a good one --- thats how i bought a Weatherby Vanguard from Wal MArt once; those rifles didnt have any workmanship issues, but the clerk and i dug through a tall stack of boxes until we found one with the best test target (but that was Wal MArt--- the clerk didnt have anything better to do and was enthusiastic about it because it helped him burn an hour off the clock )
